Awning Pump

 ·

Yesterday took a leap of faith and bought a Vango inflatable awning, even though there is nothing wrong with my existing one due to a never to get better major muscle tear thought that this would be easier to put up.
Anyway the question is does anybody use a 12v pump that is not branded with a awning manufacturers name at what appear to be very high prices

I've had a cheap one for over 20 years, it inflates and deflates (blows and sucks), it sort of looks like the pic below and that one is £20 on fleabay.

I have a Vango inflatable awning and have only inflated using the hand pump (with the gauge attachment). I have an electric pump but don't know if it would work with a Vango as you need the right connector head and there is no way of monitoring the pressure.

Vango manual air pump

From enclosed photo, there is a pressure gauge incorporated into the vango air line. Between 6 and 8 psi is the correct pressure.
Also note other end of the pipe with the white washer connection, this it is vango push and twist connector.
I would doubt that an ordinary 12 volt electric pump would generate the 6 to 8 psi while trying to maintaining a seal.

Just to add to this. I got the Aldi inflatable tent last summer and an electric air pump similar to the photo above. The pump was absolutely useless as could not pump at a high enough pressure.

Result
Popped into local caravan/motorhome dealer to buy a new kettle and Vango rep was there.
Had a chat about the new awning I had bought and told him that I was needing an electric pump as I could not use the manual one due to back problems but didn't think I would be buying a Vango one because they were stupid expensive in my opinion. He told me the were bring out a new version for 2019 and there would be some ex-demos around and would get one for me FOC
as I said RESULT
Very happy chappie is me :D

Nice one David.
From a situation that was difficult from vango’s point of view to having a satisfied customer that will no doubt give them future business....
good forward thinking by an established company, and a great result for you.

Which awning did you get? I'm thinking about a Hexaway myself.
