We were there recently, I think they close in Oct for Winter. There is a large field with pitches and EHU but he brings the sheep in to graze. It gets quite cold up there.

It is not terrible far from me but I was never there, I believe it is quite quaint.

Here is one to add,
https://www.ranchoreilly.com/camping/

It's only about 30 minutes from me. The pet farm is open all year round, and the campsite is based on the pet farm. Their website doesn't mention a closed season for camping.
I haven't been to Rancho, but my kids have been there a few time with the scouts and really enjoyed it.

Wouldn’t it be great if this information could be added to a description field on the motorhome parking app poi’s? Oops, have I potentially created a lot of work for someone ? 🤭

The details are being added slowly but you are right it is a lot of work. There are a LOT more campsites on the app that you might imagine.

What Mark (Elmo) said. He has been a godsend in sending in details of each campsites opening hours plus much more and has just sent me another list tonight. I will get them added tomorrow.

@ the rambler. The field is being created for each campsite. Also for bars etc.
The field contains phone numbers, web address which are all clickable and campsites have opening times, cost etc.

@Chausson RE Powers the pot,
I cant remember exactly why it was taken off the list but it was taken off for a reason of some sorts or other,

From visiting there last year, the owner Naill gave us the impression that the cost of maintaining hot water and etc all year round, was not cost effective for the numbers booking in.
Also as R&N has said is in high country and the access road would be prone to frost.

What amazes me is the number of sites that dont show their season. I am actively looking for the information and i sometimes have trouble finding it.

Also, some to add to the list that i found in my searching:
- Clare Glen Caravan Park, Craigavon. - website suggests they are all year - anyone got first hand knowledge??
- Derrylahan Hostel, Kilcar, Co Donegal - All year but booking essential from Nov to Feb
- Cronins Yard - Nothing on their website but i cant see any reason why you couldnt stay there.

As for Rancho's. I think the problem he has is that the field gets soft in winter and he is reluctant to let vans or cars in there so I wouldnt be certain about it being all year.

Here are two photos of Powers the Pot taken on 31 Aug 2018...still summertime and the only ones there.
Quite rustic setting.

I think you would need to call ahead to any of the sites listed to make sure what services they offer before hand
In case they had a any weather related problems on site,or getting to there site.

Can you perhaps recommend a good site for first time motorhome campers? We're looking for a scenic spot somewhere on the South coast, open this time of year, with toilet and EHU facilities. This will be our first weekend away with our motorhome, so we don't want to rough it. Also, we have two dogs coming with so the campsite will need to be pet friendly.

We're thinking of next weekend (28-30 December), not further than say 3 hours (max 4 hours) drive away from Wexford town.

The Glen of Aherlow Campsite is a good spot. It might not be the coast but has nice scenery in the Galtee mountains. Stayed there a few weeks back.

Thanks, I'm looking at their website now. Also considering Wave Crest and Parsons Green.
Norman View does not have EHU does it?

Norman View has 7 EHU pitches, you can book a pitch with EHU.

How about Cobh.
There is lots to do, local bars and restaurants and a train to Cork city, all within strolling distance.

With a decent battery you should be able to manage a 48-hour stay and use the toilet in the MH, so site toilet facilities and EHU should no be essential.
There's a service bay in Cobh where you can empty your cassette, grey water and take on fresh water.

We'll definitely consider that at a later stage, but for a first trip in the motorhome we would rather not do wild camping. After a few trips, absolutely.

Cobh is not exactly wild camping, it's an Aire it has the facilities. Wild would be down at the hook lighthouse where you have to rely on all your own facilities.

There is a craic meet a few miles over the road in Kilfenane, you should go along for a night, great craic,
don't be too worried about plugging the MH in as plenty of craicers will advise you on what to do if you need help, advise, or a few spoons of sugar😊

Which ever you end up in be sure and enjoy your self 👍🏻👍🏻

Edit: its the same distance from Mitchelstown jctn to Kilkenane as Glen of Aherlow

I suppose what ever floats your boat David, while Aherlow is a lovely site and George is an absolute gentleman, I find it just too remote this time of year and too hard to put the day down unless you are into hill walking which is no longer for me unfortunately.
Gerrit, don’t let me put you off, it is really a top class site, Just make sure you don’t forget anything or you will be driving. We are only 20 minutes over the road in Kilfinane which has shops , pubs and restaurants and electrical hook ups onsite if it don’t work out for you there. Enjoy your first outing and hope it will be a memorable one for all the right reasons.

Ehu, John? There are over 40 ehu points there, this Aire is on par with Cobh, twice the size and nearer the town.

Thanks for all the advice and comments. We're snug and comfy in Glen of Aherlow. Just had my morning coffee and have to do a bit of work before we explore the area with our two dogs.
For our first trip, we wanted all the comforts such as showers and toilets on site, EHU, and a place for the dogs to stretch their legs. Next time we'll be happy to try out an aire and make use of our motorhome's toilet and shower.
So far, we're loving it!
We need to go into town later today, so we might pop in and say hello at the aire. What's the best way of getting there? Is the R663 a decent enough road? It's the shortest route.

Good Stuff Gerrit, Tipperary town is your nearest Town if you need supplies. kilfinane is the opposite direction, I don’t know what the road number is but you go through Lisvernane, Galbally and Garrispillane, I don’t know if there are any craicers there until Tomorrow evening though.

When we arrive in Kilfinane do we just park up, is the owner allocating us a section for MHC?
Do we pay by cash or do they have machine that takes credit card or do we pay in the pub?.

Just park up, don't worry about payment, Henry will be knocking around you can pay him cash, there is no panic , he knows we are coming , I phoned him a couple of days ago. Just enjoy yourselves.
