4G mobile wi-fi kit inc. antenna for Internet via SIM card.

I'm hoping some of the grown-ups on here can help me.

I want to use internet in the camper even if not on site.

Saw a Kuma 4G wi-if kit with antenna advertised on DoneDeal. Prices vary quite a bit.

The reviews on Amazon also vary a lot; from 5* to 1* and this has left me confused.

I would like a data only SIM card that I could use and would value any comments that Craicers would make.

Thank you.

I’m running the huawei B315s-22 4G dongle router.
Use it in France with a 3UK data sim and works well albeit restricted to 3G.
We run a Spanish sim here and get full 4G with speeds in excess of 50mb/sec.
Has 4 LAN ports, usb for media and external antennas. Excellent WiFi coverage.
Always get excellent signal and network coverage with it.

I have a Huawei E5577 mifi its 4G and I use a 3 data sim. Never failed to get a signal in Ireland, UK, Spain, France, Portugal and the USA. I also bought an aerial for it on Ebay and I'm sure it was less than 10 Euro but I've never had to use yet.

Talk to Motorhome WiFi in York and they will advise you. I’ve bought from them and I’m totally satisfied both with what they sold me and their expert knowledge.

Knows his stuff but a lot of his equipment is just rebadged from other places. It can be got a lot cheaper.

Also there is as much knowledge on here.

These guys for equipment are good: https://www.solwise.co.uk but even then it can be got cheaper sometimes.

Cheapest if you dont know exactly what you are looking for may not be the best may. At least with MH WiFi they have tested the stuff and know it’s limitations etc.

Which network are you running in Spain and roughly what’s it costing as I’m giving up on my internet provider as we can’t get the speed up to anything useful

I don’t know John, I got the SIM card from a supplier in the indoor market here in Benidorm. It’s €20 for 15GB and it seems to be the way that most here on the site get broadband.
I’ll be getting a top up on it soon and will find out the details for you.

Do you ever have to change the settings for different Sims or does it do it automatically like the Huawei MIFI??

My 4G router has to have it's settings changed manually to match the sim which is a PITA.

Auto change ally, obviously details on sim..... I’ve never changed this one.... the older 3G one I have had to be manually configured.
The only manual configuration I’ve done on this one is changed the WiFi network name and password.
Works out of the box.

Depends what you want. If you want a continuous amount of data per month then you are better going for a contract data Plan with dongle(mifi), on those occasions you will get a free dongle, an aerial can be bought for buttons and not usually needed.

If you want a sim only package or pay as you go, then I would look up the price of network free Dongles before purchasing.

That kit is network free, would only be interested in prepaid sims. the thinking is to use it to watch TV through a firestick. Will check prices on E-bay.

Another thing to consider is that not all dongles take aerials. Some do not have the ports, also for 4G you need two ports. So an aerial with two cables is needed to get 4G.

I wouldn't worry too much about an aerial, they have varying results and are mostly not needed. I just viewed a Huawei dongle on ebay for £29.99 NEW.

This ad for instance: HERE

P.S. from a quick look at that it has the two ports as I can see the little flap.

Seems to be a few Huawei B315's on ebay. Anyone know a suitable 12v (vehicle) power lead for these?

Great, thanks. Looks like it's just a fused lead so might make one up myself.

The B315 seems can be used as a normal router so I could use it with an amplified WiFi antenna to pickup a campsites WiFi create a private network in the van. Failover to 4G then if needed.

I did some looking into this earlier in the week especially around the kit that the motorhomewifi/iBoost guys supply. It works out way cheaper to buy these items yourself.

This kit - https://www.motorhomewifi.com/…er-pack-3/

From what I can see this contains a Huawei B315 router, maybe the model number is B315s-22 which frequently comes up an eBay for £20-£30. I think the antenna itself is a Panorama Antennas LPMM-7-27
http://www.panorama-antennas.c…duct_id=70

The antenna can be had for around £110 plus shipping (or £130 on Amazon UK from a marketplace seller)- https://www.reichelt.com/gb/en…6.html?r=1

Not entirely sure what the voltage regulator is that motorhomewifi sell but I can't see it being a massive issue to plug into the van's 12v system.

In all, I think you could buy the parts for 50% of what motorhomewifi charge.
