It has been reported in the Wexford people newspaper that there will be no Irish Ferries service from Rosslare to France from September, the Oscar Wilde is moving to Dublin to serve the Cherbourg route. 2019 schedule under review😳😳

The issue stems from Rosslare been ran by the old CIE unions who don't want to change work practice or more importantly to Irish Ferries a new timetable.
With new and faster ships on order, Irish Ferries need to change the docking and undocking time in Rosslare to reflect their new business plan.
Dublin port was devolved from the old CIE about 20 years ago and now trades as The Dublin Port Authority which is a semi private ran company.
This will become a trail by media until the Rosslare unions and Irish Ferries sit down and hammer out a deal.

Is this true? I had to rebook Rosslare on the Oscar Wilde because of the W.B. Yeats fiasco. The IF website still allows bookings from Rosslare in September

I think it is end of September. November and December sailings from rosslare are no longer available.

I texted my ex Irish ferries mate tonight. Oscar Wilde is running into Rosslare until the end of September, but then it is covering the winter route for Dublin to France.
According to Irish Ferries internal proposed schedule for 2019, the oscar wilde returns to the Rosslare /France route from May 2019 to mid September 2019.

Hi all,
First time poster. Last year we purchased a trailer tent from Trigano and travelled to France for 3 weeks which we absolutely adored. The TT was a toe in the water to see if this would work for us with a young child. But we loved every minute.
We booked Brittany ferries last year for 900 euro for the 3 of us plus trailer and an outside cabin in July. I've checked this year and it is more like 1300 euro.
We really enjoyed Brittany ferries Pont Aven (to Roscoff), and had a great stay.
So my question (finally) is - should I continue to wait for Irish Ferries somewhat delayed summer schedule announcement or should I book BF now?
Is there generally much of a price difference? - if it is 200 or 300 I think I would go with BF (it's somewhat more convenient than Rosslare).
Is BF likely to increase in price further?

Many thanks, and great to see all these great posts and posters on this forum!

BF are usually the most expensive try Stena from Rosslare, I think IF may be finished using Rosslare to France but not sure

Thank you.
I wonder if there will be any service from Dubin to Roscoff instead?
Would prefer to travel to Roscoff ideally this year.

The Stena prices are going up as far as I can see, so I booked a flexi fare just now, into Cherbourg though😕, just in case IF have another nightmare and don’t operate a service to France from Rosslare this summer. Hopefully they will though and I can cancel Stena, as it is over double what I paid IF last June. €847 versus €401 😫

That is some RIP OFF
900 to1300 BF
400 to 530 ST
What will IF come up with if they are going to ever open their price book.

I could see that coming since the Stena buy out of Celtic Link.
Oldest trick in the book, buy out the competition, corner a market and raise the price.

And if you get to travel in July or August... you get to experience the immense pleasure of fellow passengers ramming and slamming their overnight cases and hard shell cool boxes down the sides and off the corners of your Motorhome. At 10pm and 7am, the vehicle deck dog walkers run between vans snagging their extending dog leads. As an extra bonus, the rusty, fishy salt water from the Horizon's open deck drips (or showers) down off the ceiling and once it dries, it attracts flies and is a bit of a pig to wash off... luckily for me it was the return leg but the MHs on the two inside lanes were absolutely covered and one had their window down... I wasn't best pleased having to wash the van after a 5 hour drive up from Rosslare but I'm glad I did!

I bumped into my ex Irish Ferries mate, this morning.
His info is that, the boatyard anf Irish Ferries have agreed the final price for the WB Yeats including the compo for late delivery.
The ship is due to be released to Irish Ferries this Friday.
The timetables for the French sailings are prepared and will be released after the ship is secured by Irish Ferries.
Seemingly the WB Yeats will focus on the Dublin / Cherbourg route for 6 to 8 months of the years and during the winter months, the Hollyhead route. WB Yeats will not be docking in Rosslare or Roscoff because neither pier has the necessary ramps for loading, etc.

Thorn, have a look pier cam on fsg-ship.de/en/about-us/ and you will see the ship where she has been all week, I guessed there was some sort of problem as the sailing was getting pushed forward all the time. There was no movement on W,B,Yeats but the one next to it was being worked on 24/7. The latest is she is sailng on friday

I am not doubting you, Nilrac, but if you were selling something and the buyer was looking for a discount of the equivalent of a Euro millions lotto draw, you would be very slow to move.
Irish Ferries have staff in training on site for the new ship's systems, etc.
The other point to note here is, will Irish Ferries board commit the WB Yeats to The Irish sea routes or will they charter the ship out to someone else. They have a few well paying charters on the water.
After all of the messing during the summer of 2018, they just about survived on the France route with the Oscar Wilde and the Episilon. A good timetable management and I reckon both boats would easily manage the 3 summer months.
Personally I find it difficult for Irish Ferries to find 3 kms of parking lanes for filling on each trip to France, with current customer dissatisfactions.
The big call in this debate is the custom side of Brexit but currently indications on the policital front is that up until 2021/22 the current status remains.
Irish Ferries market to France will be lead by trucks abandoning the uk landbrigde.

You got in one Mr T, Its like selling a car you wont let it go until you got a good bit of the price and the rest on the never never, There does seem to be a push on to get a customer base of hauliers maybe like Spanish and fridge operators who use Santander Plymouth and dont have time to hang about with sensitive cargo for Ireland and can afford the little extra and save on diesel. Yes Irish ferries have a lot of charter you dont hear too much about, Not many folk know they own the Pride of Bilbao which P&O run and the old Isle of Innisfree which was running between the islands in New Zealand from 2005 until 2017 ,then the renter bought her. I am sure they are more. The Epsilon is under charter so she could go back and others would be moved around.

Am I mistaken, but haven't Irish Ferries, not ordered a second boat from the same shipyard with a delivery date in the summer of 2020?

Yes Mr T .Due for delivery in 2020 and Irish Ferries have put 20% down. They should call her Grace O Malley as they are plenty of pirates out on the Irish Seas. W.B.Yeats is due for delivery early December Have a look at www.icg.ie and click on Trading update Nov2018. The Kaitaki is the old, isle of innisfree and a bit of good reading looking at the returns the price of travel will go up not down.

The corridor signage was wrong. The emergency arrows were pointing the wrong way. Some cabins numbers ran in the wrong sequence and on the wrong decks.
Some of the Irish Ferries top brass are flying out in the morning for the photo opps.
WB Yeats is expected to sail at some stage tomorrow afternoon or evening, for Irish waters.

Well folks the good ship W.B.Yeats is still lying peacefully on her moorings ,the only thing moving on her today were the seagulls, whilst on the next berth they have been going 24/7 on that ferry. Now for tomorrow there is a high tide at 10.12 and 22.56 european time (-1hr for us) so if there is a bit of a Do
She ( all ships are called she) will be leaving on the evening tide because they can only open the lock gates to let her out at high water because of all the other boats are tied up. we will be watching
