The 12v leisure battery operated reading lights in my Motorhome were crap, so I ordered. 12v LED striplights.
8.4w, 0.25 amp, (four lamps)

The wiring on the old ones is household domestic 240v wire. I've ripped out the stuff linking the four lamps and am looking something more suitable.

Is this stuff ok? Or what do I need?

0.75 mm sq is more than adequate to power 0.25 A loads. So yes, absolutely fine. LED
lighting like that is a light load so the biggest factor for you is that your cable is flexible and easy to route and is tidy.

Any electrical store should sort you out for twin core with at least 3 amp rating. Even light speaker wire or bell wire will do the job. Have you got a B&Q nearby or are you looking to order online?

Are the LED lamps rate for 12 Volts BTW? If so you will need parallel wiring back to battery via switch(es).

These look like the strip lights I have. They are good. So yes you can just link them through either via twin core or by snapping them directly together directly in a modular fashion.

Just to be clear. 8.4 watts on 12 volt is 0.7 amps. So for 4 lamps that is 2.8 amps, so 3 amp cable is barely big enough, especially if you add in volt drop

Sorry I only saw the 0.25 Amps. I didn’t pay attention to the fact that it can be switched to draw 0.7 Amp. So yes Daffysparks is correct, 4 strips could draw 2.8 Amps and so 3 Amp cable is a bit underrated.

Anyway, I’d be surprised if B&Q do supply cable with a rating as low as 3 Amps. Even the Nexar 0.75 mm sq is rated for 6. So hopefully whatever OP comes back with will be fine. Please double check OP.

Would have to agree. the minimum cable size I would use is 1.5 especially if you wanted to add more lights.
