Are the NT now trying to stop us entering without paying and making us go through the visitor Centre? We need to fight this if that's the case!

seems like there is a lot of upset over NT forcing the local vender out and trying to make people pay to see the giants causeway. Apparently you can access the causeway free, but NT seem to be making people go through their centre and pay. Lot of posts on facebook about the free access road that visitors dont know about.

Look up McConagheys souvenir shop on Facebook for more info. This seems to have been initiated against the NT and not by them. I believe they have blocked off the access over the roof which was my usual visitor centre bypass.

I would just run the gauntlet past the NT staff in yellow coats through the tunnel in future. I usually cycle there when staying nearby. They made me get off my bike and push it back up the hill from the stones for safety reasons last time. I would not have been fit to cycle back up anyway!

I wouldn't trust the NT any further than I could throw them.
We were there recently and I asked a ranger about the free access and at the mo it definitely is still there at any time of night or day. Presumably the parking would be free too if the visitor centre has closed and the car park staff have gone home! Which also means that it should be possible to overnight there...
It is a disgrace that they don't mention the free access anywhere...

I wouldn't either in my local area there's a piece of common land around 3 acres of headland which the NT have been trying to grab for years even up to putting up signs and donation box's. Which are removed immediately by the locals with support from the local councillors.
So any situation involving the NT needs close monitoring

Where would that be then?

At a guess.... Cornwall.
That’s where Witzend lives.

We're in Bushmills now, looking to head out to Causeway tomorrow. Is there any free parking for the MH within walking distance of the Causeway (prepared to do a decent enough walk)? If not, whats our best option?

Got turned away from the causeway car park at the top for being in the mh... (despite ample amount of spaces!) they’ll advise park and ride!

Assume you are overnighting in the car park opposite the Co-op /Bushmills Inn in Bushmills. Not sure if the PnR bus operates this time of year direct from the car park in Bushmills. Couldn’t find anything on line.

If not, there is a regular Ulsterbus service bus (several different route numbers) which runs every hour or less. It stops on the street outside the car park, between the Co-op and the war memorial. Look for www.translink.co.uk, then go to journey planner. Bushmills Diamond to Giants Causeway Visitor Centre.

You can go through the visitor centre which costs about £10/£11 per person. Or you can walk around the centre through the tunnel/arch and down the hill to the stones for free. There is also usually a shuttle to bring you back up the hill if you wish, about £1 per person.

This is the point that quite a lot of people know nothing about, this path is a right of way that the national trust cannot close and anyone who decides to use it cannot be refused entry.

The car park is definitely free after the visitor centre has closed but not sure how much light is left at this time of year...
When there is enough light in the evening then this is the best time to go, not only because it is free but because there are loads less people there.
