Just got back from 3 at Portumna. Great facility lots to see and do in the area.
Wasn’t planning on spending 3 nights there but I did because it just worked for what I wanted.

Yes our dog loved the walks, I enjoyed the Indian and Amanda enjoyed some down time.
We now have a bit more energy to finish off our season.

It’s a great facility and it would be great to see more like it around the country! Also important that we use it and support it.

Last time we were there we had a Chinese and were pleasantly surprised at the quality. Must try the Indian next time.

Have been there several times. When it was free you could hardly get a place at the weekends. Alot of those seem to be boycotting it now for the sake of 10 euro. With all the improvements made it is an excellent facility and I plan to visit again later in the month.

Max length of MH 6.5m!! However plenty of over hang to the rear over grass.
Only thing that wasn’t quite right was toilet cassette emptying point was an aj near gents toilet and away from the tap at the drive over, unless I missed something. How long is your stinky slinky?
Your dogs will appreciate the walking options.

I couldn’t fault it for a €10p/n I used 5units of electric off my 10 unit card that cost 6 or 7 euros. Didn’t use the showers but again with the card could have for a few units. I got my card from the newsagent next to the post office which was about 10 minutes by foot.

Lessons have been learned. Future Waterways Ireland development of Motorhome Parking will be better designed. Notwithstanding, the effort at Portumna for a first attempt is very welcomed, except probably by the skinflints.

Personally I thought the design was very good and I have been on many campsites where the facilities have had a much worse design from the user POV.
My van at 7.4m overhung on the unused area to the rear of the bays and left plenty to the front to stay within the pitch.
I’d go again and happily recommend it.

Don't get me wrong. It's a great effort and the basic design of the parking bays is excellent.
Issues identified after completion included the lack of a proper dump point for cassettes, WI thought the vacuum system put in for boat blackwater tanks could be also used for MH's, which is why an AJ has been pressed into use, and it is not necessary to have a water point and EHU for each bay, again boat thinking got in here. Also, the grey water dump facility needed a bit of 'adjustment'.

WI now have a full understanding of the issues and will work more closely with representatives of motorhome users when designing their next official MH parking area.

The only thing that can be closed in the toilet block.
All of our services, toilet dump, waste water, ehu and fresh water are separate to the toilet block.

A bit of good news regarding Portumna,
I was speaking to Noel the caretaker in Portumna,
Noel was telling me the Showers, Toilets, Water, EHU. Will all be available through the winter months,

I was one of those. There were about 15 there on Sunday when we arrived and most stayed. Great place. We are trying our the wilds of Galway for the next week. On Spiddal pier at present with the sea breaking over the rocks. Beautiful. Any suggestions for further around the coast or up into Mayo

Leo, we moved on from Portumna because it was too busy for my kids to throw around the ball.
Stopped in Terryglass afterwards with no one else around.

Stayed in Portumna last night 10 units,

Noticed the man lid has been sealed so its not possible to empty the casette into it, (being away for one night i can empty at home)

Dont know what the plan is for casette emptying going forward in Portumna but hopefully somebody can shed some light on it
