A little bit scary behavior

Hi all,
Great to see the forum back on line. We stayed on the dock road in Galway last Weekend. The city was very busy with tourists and we really enjoyed it. There was a van parked beside ours on Friday and Saturday that started up around 1:30 am on Sunday and drove off with no lights on. An hour later it came back (with no lights on) crashed into our van, quickly reversed and drove off. I have the reg number. The only damage was to my wing mirror, and it had just been bent back, and a cover fell off. I was able to refit. All seems OK. But it was scary and I thought very poor behavior. Put me off parking there any more. I did not report to Garda as no real damage

That is a basic hit and run.
If you don't report it, then they have got away with it once.

Id report it,
That may have hit another car or what ever causing a lot of damage and nobody got the reg,

It wouldnt put me off parking in Galway or any where else as that can happen anywhere.

At least when the Gardai have a word with the person responsible it might make them cop on a bit

I would definitely report it. Someone was not in control of their senses late at night while driving. You were lucky that it was only your wing mirror cover but equally this driver was extremely lucky that they didn't hit someone's loved one!

Bad luck Definitely report it,they shouldn't get away with it, it could just as easily have been someone walking g there, don't write off parking in Galway though, we've parked there loads of times and never had any issues, I'd hope it was a once off

That's bad form and definitely a strange attitude.

As the lads said, report it.

Wow, Id have been onto the cops straight away. As said, the van could have been stolen, driver could have been drunk, someone could have been killed.

I don’t know how busy the gardai are but if you reported at the time I imagine they may have done something even if just checking to see if the driver was under the influence of alcohol but now at best it is a no damage accident and your word against the other driver. What can gardai do?
This could have happened anywhere so I would not let it put you off going back.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was actually a bit worried later thinking about it, all kinds of ideas going through my head as to what was going on. Will mention it to the Gardai. Thanks. Mike
