My stinky slinky is about a foot long

Looking at them on ebay and amazon. Someone suggested the pipe is the same diameter as what farmers might use here, but I doubt it would squash up the same/

Anyone any solutions? they ain't cheap!

Been looking at this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0…_lig_dp_it

What about your local friendly fire brigade ? Their hoses are about 3" diameter they may have a bit spare that you could adapt, or try one of the hire shops that hire out sludge pumps.

You should be able to pick up something like that from a good Plant Hose or Hydraulic hose supplier

I picked up a nice Valterra sewer kit the last time I was over in 'merica. It's mega flexible and has a doohickey that you connect a garden hose to, for cleanout.

Our original one looked OK but i didn't trust it!!!! (I think of that Robin Williams scene every time I think about using it...)

Does your rear bumper also double as storage for yours?

It fills me with dread :)

Last RV it was in the rear bumper. This one is directly behind the bumper, underneath the back of the van.

Is the contents of the tank pumped out or gravity fed ? if it is pumped out a bit of lay flat hose would be a lot easier stored when not in use.

Gravity, but a macerator can be purchased that shreds it and pumps it up an ordinary hose.

Some of the high end vans from the likes of Hymer and Frankia have big tanks and macerators, why not try Donaghy's to see if they could source something.

40 quid for a full kit aint' bad, get the right kit to avoid, ahem, leakage.......
You'll be glad you did and once you've done a few empties you'll love it !!. Personally, I prefer my big tank that'll last 5/6 days compared to carrying a gallon of sh#t to dump every morning. Been there, done that when I was a tugger.....

I had a Chausson Bora with a holding tank and a big bore outlet, it was very important to get it lined up over the drain before you pulled the handle. Also tried once to decant into a bucket when I couldn’t get close to the drain, not a pretty sight. Why do they make the hose ribbed to catch all the solids and not use smooth bore

I think most folks with an RV have a similar story when it comes to emptying the waste tanks... <<sick>> Can't say I've ever tried decanting into a bucket though! That's particularly brave (and nasty)!

Regarding the alignment with the drain, I'll add a comment about slope and weight...
To mitigate risk, we use a short length of rain gutter channel UNDER the waste pipe to ensure there's a gradual slope between the waste outlet on the rv and the hole in the ground. Things tend to flow better. The waste pipe gets surprisingly heavy when "stuff" is passing through it. So the gutter channel hooks onto our chassis and it carries the weight of the pipe & contents instead of those 4 tiny bayonet lugs that hold the slinky onto the outlet! Mucho important in my mind when dealing with old plastic holding tanks and old fittings  Hearing things creaking and clicking after you've pulled that black handle is never a comfortable experience!

Maybe it's overkill, but "Take no chances" is a good motto when doing this particular nasty deed!

You can get fancy accessories for the same purpose (like the gadget below), but the piece of plastic gutter channel works for us.

Experiences so far.

Pretty good, reverse up to my septic tank, connect my 20 foot hose and let it all go. Black first and then grey to wash the hose.

But....

4 nights away at the weekend and it was nearly full. Easily emptied at home but if I was away for longer than 4 nights I think I am going to struggle to find somewhere. I'm picturing the places I have been and can think of nowhere that I could dump it.

Well that's something answered that I wondered, if one of those is smaller than your RV tank how were we expected to know when it was getting full without making a mess. The wee red thing popped up.

But, it still needs to be emptied into something lower than itself and 18 gallons would be hard to lift if that wasn't available. All emptying points I have seen are higher than ground level.

Have those. In a strange town with a strange accent and asking the locals where their nearest manhole cover is so I can access their sewer............ then getting the RV close enough to dump it into it.

I think I have talked myself into changing it :)

We have something like the smaller one. 10-12 gallons. Used it a couple of times when in a bind. Our camper doesn't have a locker big enough to stow it flat, so we had it strapped on underneath the chassis out of sight using 2" ratchet straps.
We wouldn't wait until the tanks were full before "decanting". If we were at 3/4 full and knew it'd be another couple of days before we got to a campsite or to home, we'd break out the tote. Not a pleasant job. But its a means to an end.

How to avoid over filling the tote? Ours isn't fancy and doesn't have a level gauge. In our case someone watches the LED display inside in the camper while another controls the decanting. Once it gets down to 1/4 full, we shut the valve. simples. We never FILLED the tote just to avoid any unpleasantness.

As for weight, I can't recall exactly as it's been years, but a half full tote was very manageable, at a guess ~20kg. Easy enough to lift onto most campsite waste traps and tip out the contents.

It would be much easier (and less gross) if campsites had ground level traps for RV's but I guess the demand isn't there. I think Jamie said he has a ground level trap for rv's up in Doonbeg, so you'll just have to go there a lot more!! :-)

Maybe a future version of the Motorhome Parking Map might include a list of ground level RV dump stations! ;-)

That sounds like the simplest solution Kevin, as you say...means to an end. OR....If Ally cut back on the Carlsberg he might get longer intervals before " Decanting " !!! :D :D :D

Funny enough, our biggest culprit is the grey tank, that fills up in no time. Black not so much.

Then again, I dont drink Carlsberg so that probably explains it...

Well after much deliberation............ what you mean? "What more?"

I'm going to give the Tote a trial, this is the cheapest I have found with the cheapest postage and the smallest with auto cut off valve.

Did I get this right. You have an 18 gallon black tank and you filled it in 4 days? How much water goes into the tank every time you pee, I mean flush it.

No you're wrong, it's a 25 gallon tank - lol

Wasn't quite full but getting there. I worked out it's about 90+ litres (US gallons), how many litres in a Euro cassette? multiply that by days. A cassette lasts a day for two people.

American toilet admittedly uses a lot of flush water, has been known for some to turn the pump off when only flushing a pee.

You could use a diluted pink liquid in a spray bottle for number 1 and only flush for larger jobs.

Fair enough. 17 ltrs x 4 is 68. Less flushed water could give you another day.
