Good luck with the MOT.

Them new lights on the roof remind me of the volvo FH Globetrotter 😁

Just a thought.........if you fit 3 more Varta’s you could sell EHU to the lad next to you when on the busy aires 😉😉

failed

But not to bad, it hasn't been MOT'd since 2015 and it passed on everything but a couple of bits of brake pipes. It's now home though and my local mechanic is going to replace them and then I'll retest it. I'm going to get to work doing stuff that I couldn't do as it was too far away, cleaning and sorting.

So it's a pity but not to bad at all :)

Thats a pretty good result considering it hasnt been tested in a while, and to boot its an easy and inexpensive repair.
Youll soon have that sorted.

Not bad at all Ally, as long as they don't mention that four letter word, (RUST), you are alright. By the way it is a nice and compact for a RV, looks really well, Enjoy!

Left Hand drive.

After some alarming moments it's not long before you settle into a LHD vehicle. The most alarming thing for me was that to get it in the right place in the lane, I felt like I was sitting over the path on my left.

Great fun though, Paul was in the passenger seat and he made a few noises I wasn't expecting :D

Look closely...

My van failed for brake pipe's two tests ago, the best failure result I could have gotten.
The burst on the test bay ,pissed off and happy at the same time.

A job I wasn't looking forward too, emptying the 25 US Gallon Black tank that hadn't been emptied in two years

It was surprisingly not as bad as I had thought it was going to be, got it connected up to my septic and let it flow

Gave it a good rinsing with a home made "wand" - copper pipe with a T on the end, ends closed and then drilled to allow a spray to go all around the black tank with a hose attached to the other end.

Stick a bio washing tablet or two and some water in it and drive for a while. Should help, works well in a cassette and my grey tank.

Load of stuff done today but also found that the Shurflo pump is leaking :( - it wasn't drained over the winter so maybe froze and broke it.

Better news, the Water Boiler is working a treat and I fitted the new main board to the fridge and it has came back to life, I've left it on overnight to see how cold it gets. Doesn't work on gas but there is no spark so maybe the igniter, further investigation required.

Local mechanic out last night and he is doing the brake pipes next week :)

It's all coming along nicely :)

Allegedly the gas solidifies slightly if the fridge hasn't been used, or with age. It then doesn't circulate enough to cool. Turning it upside down for 24hours allows the gas to move from one end to the other and frees it all up again.

At least, that's my understanding.

I know my Uncle many years ago, made a bit of money by fixing them that way :)

Approx 10 screws at the front (inside), two at the bottom on the back, which I got at from the outside, disconnected all the wires and the gas pipe and slid it out, easy enough.

Took a lot of photos so it gets wired up again correctly ;)

Would be worth cleaning the flu pipe and the burner and connected it up to a gas bottle now that you have it out you will be able to see how its operating, you will need to give it a 12volt feed also.

This post on the Hymer owners forum. Not totally relevant but perhaps helpful.

Dometic / Electrolux Absorption 3 way Fridge Problems

Not getting cold or only the freezer getting cold
Try plugging into mains with fridge 240v thermostat set to max and gas on max as well for a couple of hours then drive up and down the bumpiest road you can find.
The chemicals used are a liquid cocktail of chemicals that will separate out over time if the fridge has not been used and you need to get them re-mixed to perform correctly. turning the fridge upside down risks emptying all of the crud in the reservoir chamber into the system and blocking the evaporation jet (dead fridge).
Turning an old absorption fridge upside down is a very last resort, first try shaking on bumpy road, then remove fridge and 2 people shake as hard as they can.
final attempt of rotating the fridge in (for most absorption fridges) an anti clockwise direction looking from the back with out stopping with the fridge upside down.
The last resort has a success rate for the fridge then working with out problems in the next 2 years of about 10 %
about 80 % of fridges will work perfectly after this for a few weeks to 6 months
10 % will be dead and only get hot inside due to a blocked evaporation jet.
It is not possible to repair the absorption heat exchanger or evaporation jet that bis inside as they are sealed units.

STANDING A FRIDGE UPSIDE DOWN IS NOT GOOD and ROTATING IS A LAST RESORT WHEN ALL ELSE HAS FAILED
1) check fridge on both 240v and gas (there should be little difference in performance if the fault is with the actual refrigeration system rather than power source)
2) If performance is the same on both check your ventilation. The air in the rear of the fridge should not be above 42c for the fridge to work correctly. if above this fit some fans blowing out of the top vent (never blowing into the bottom vents if running on gas)
3) if the fridge runs fine on 240v but not on gas then no matter how good your flame looks it is either not getting enough heat into the system or it is putting too much in. This can be wrong jet / wrong gas pressure / burner tube sooted up / burner tube baffle either missing or in wrong place / feed pipe restricted (corroded) / burner Venturi corroded and restricted primary air ports / burner crown missing damaged.
4) if the fridge runs ok on gas but not on 240v then it is either no power getting to the fridge (easy check if you have a switch that lights up when switched on) / faulty switch / faulty thermostat (rare) /faulty 240v element (most common)

After all of this then it might be time to remove the fridge and start shaking etc.

I'm hearing soo many mixed messages about fridges :)

I know quite a few people who swear by turning it upside down, I rang a fridge repair place yesterday that specialise in caravans and they said to try that first.

If it works, all well and good, if it does'nt, it's 27 years old and deserves a wee rest.

I’m going to be changing mine, well James in Anchorpoint is😆
Mine is perfect on gas and 12 volt, but not always on ehu. Could take a couple of hours to change from gas to 230. It is aes but no way to manually select. It is 14 years old. Dometic RM 6505. If it’s any use to you, if yours has had it, you are more than welcome to it. You may collect it from Anchorpoint though 😳

Let the fridge sit upside down for a 24 hours and with the help of Dave(Eirebus) turned it back up the right way and installed it. Worked ok and seemed to be chilling, then a few hours later you could of baked a cake in it :-/

Time to dump it, 27 years old, how good could it be :)

David(Daffysparks), I need your fridge :)

In all seriousness ...... I'm going to try and get it brought to Rathangan ( Kildare ) so if anyone has a trailer or a van and happens to be driving from Anchorpoint to Rathangan let me know please :) I can pay fuel costs.

"Walter" the RV, yes he has now been named! o.O

Walter has had many years of smoking going on inside, the ceiling was yellow. Didn't think it too bad at the start and thought it was probably an off-white to begin with. After close inspection though it was confirmed that it did indeed used to be white :/

We tried all sorts of cleaners with varying success but none that good, I considered painting it.

Went into the shed and spied my old bottle of Fenwicks Black Streak remover, which I remember using years ago and thinking it wasn't great at removing black streaks. Time for a go on the old nicotine coloured ceiling.

WOW! spray it on and the nicotine practically drips off! Nice white ceiling once more :) - chuffed.

Took the furnace out for inspection, the fan works and it does what it is meant to do but it doesn't light. it looks a bit worse for wear also.

I have considered sending this to England to get it fixed but due to the cost of this and as they are notoriously sore on batteries I am going to replace it.

Removed most of the Habitation Air Con today, I'll never use it, I don't plan on being plugged into EHU and that thing needs EHU like I need beer.

I was hoping that the hole left was the same as the standard 400 x 400 skylight that the rest of the RV seems to have. Perfect, the hole it left is exactly the size needed for a 400 x 400 skylight.

I posted previously about removing nicotine or stale smoke, it's turned out harder than I thought it would. Everything needs scrubbed, floors, walls & surfaces. All the blinds have been taken down and soaked in the bath along with other things that we could squeeze into the bath along with them. We are winning, the smell is finally dissipating. Years of neglect and the fact I want to (now) keep everything original has created a lot of work. It could all of been quite easily painted over with a nice new fresh coat of paint.

I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger on that A/C unit I was looking for. A moment of madness in the hottest weather of the year.

I know what you mean about "keeping the originality" Ally. It'll be worth it in the end though.

Can't wait to see it.
