the motor factor said that too, apparently there should be no pressure in there

As far as i know there should be a small bit of pressure when at normal operating temp because you hear the hiss if you opened the cap when warm, it equalises when cold,
I dont know after that,

Try this guy, Daniel Laffan. While he is an engine rebuilder, he would be able to diagnose if your have a water pressure problem or if the tank supports are shot.
If I remember correctly, he has family involved in the van dismantlers game, so part won't be a problem.
I have been happy with work that was done for us .

For the benefit of anybody with a similar problem, i found a crack in the spigot at the front, where the rubber hose is clipped on.
The vessel itself was not leaking as i first thought

If you don't mind about the looks, you can definitely fix a crack with a bit of fiberglass. Easy enough to get a fiberglass kit for a tenner or something like that...

If not, dig around ebay most likely you'll find one.

Did the van went through overheating/ran out of water at some point? That'll be the only explanation for that reservoir to crack really...
