Gas cylinders in Spain (or France)

Hello Crackers, I'm new to this site and I must compliment you on the level of activity and responses. We are heading to Spain and Portugal for about 6 / 7 weeks in September, no return booked yet. In the past we have checked to see if we could locate a propane cylinder similar to our own threaded one. No luck. Do any of you know a place or company that does sell them. Failing that is it best to be prepared to buy a new reg with a new cylinder. Thanking you in anticipation.

Getting new cyl8nders in Spain can be a bit of a hassle as you need to have an NIE number to get a contract etc, personally I would fit a refillable bottle and use LPG

Spain used a clip on regulator as used in ROI, gas cheap there at around €15 per 12KG cylinder.
You can generally pick up empty bottles in flea markets / car boot sales there for around a tenner.
We have refillable bottles and a lot of filling stations sell GPL (LPG), but it isn’t any cheaper than the pre filled bottles.

France is the same as ROI. In Spain you can buy a clip on adapter that your pig tail will screw straight onto. I picked up on for €12 near Barcelona. In franc to buy a cylinder without an empty was €25 in eLeClerc. €5.30 for cylinder and €19.70 for gas. I still have that cylinder half full for next years trip

Many thanks for the prompt replies. All good quality and we will sift to see which suits. We have a spare clip on reg so that is coming and we may start looking at options earlier this time. It was only on our last few days that the panic set in. Refillable may be the best option as we plan to stay longer in the future.

I have two threaded propane bottles which just held out for last 8 week spin. I have a patio gas regulator but am not familiar with the new plastic bottles.

Did as mentioned already, went to Intermarche and got a cylinder for €1 deposit + €19.99 for gas. Same regulator fitting as R. of Ireland. You can also buy French Regulator in Intermarche or other supermarkets. (Above was two years ago).

Yes €1, that was two years ago, but probably still the same.
