I'm looking for perfect overnight locations

Hi All, I'm hoping you can help me...

I'm planning a bit of a "memory lane" tour in the Coachmen, taking my oul folks on a tour of places that we went to as a family years ago.

I have a couple of their Favourite campsites in mind, Lough Ree being one of them. But over the years, my dad was able to find some pretty epic overnight parking spots. Always near a bar or restaurant and always near a river or lake. They would have had waterfront seating & waterfront parking suitable for motorhomes. Usually in a quiet rural setting.
I can visualise many of the places in my head as we visited these places several times, but I can only remember Murphys Bar in East Ferry in Cork and St Mullins in Carlow.

I know there were some great spots up in the North of the island, but there were quite a few down South too. I know he loved touring around the Shannon area so I'm assuming some of them were over there...

I asked my folks but they can't remember the names of the locations. My dad used to have a small red notebook with all of his favourite locations written in (pre-internet technology :lol:), but we cant find it.

So my question to you is... can you name the type of locations I have in my mind?

Heres the criteria:
* Pub or Restaurant
* Overnight parking
* Near a body of water
* Outdoor seating
*Quiet rural setting
* Epic views :-)

And to visualise what I'm after:

St Mullins:

East Ferry:

I'm not sure if they'd be up to a huge amount of driving as both are now in their late 80's, so I'm only focussed on parking spots in the Munster area for now. But for anyone else following this thread, it'd be handy to include great locations country wide.

Check out Carrigaholt (Clare) for a free parking spot it should meet your criteria
.
One I would chose but NOT near a pub Restaurant would be Bridges of Ross.

Another one if you don’t mind a 15/20 minute (honest) walk to the village would be across the bay from me in Doonbeg the spot is a smallish, flat level Carpark over looking the bay down a dead end road so very quiet at night.

Sorry I don’t get out enough to provide any other locations.

Yeah you're right. And with the passage of time I bet a lot of the locations have become idealised in memories! That's one thing I'm a bit worried about. Reality may not measure up to memory.

My folks are not as mobile as they used to be so I'm probably looking for "doorstop" locations or at most 50m walk door to door.

The Parking app was my first port-of-call but I didn't recognise the parking spots I have in mind. It makes me wonder if they're long gone. :-(

We'll see where this thread goes. Maybe I'll get lucky.

I'd recommend,
Helens Bar and restaurant Kilmackillogue Pier, co Kerry.carpark opposite the pub with view down the pier and estuary. Picnic tables on the pier.
The Lehanmore community center on the way to Dursey island
Both on the app.
And for contrast and to show then the way we hope things are moving, do a night or two in the new one in Eyeries
Between the two above .
Just about enough driving between them for all 3 oldies :D

A few spots worth checking.
1. The free public car park or beach beside Jack's Bar/Restaurant in Cromane, with a full view of Dingle Bay.
2. Ross Hotel , Rosscarbery. (allowed park overnight if you use the facilities)
3. Goosey Island, Sneem, have a pint in Dan Murphys. Plenty eateries in Sneem. Beautiful spot.
4. Garrykennedy and Dromineer on Lough Derg in Co Tipp.
5. The speckled Door Pub/Rest. near the Old Head no problem overnighting in the car park or Garretstown beach a few kms away.
6. On the pier near the twelve arch bridge in Ballydehob.
Best of luck with your travels.
