We love the calpe area in Calpe. there are now 4 long term stop overs. Basic facilities and plenty to do in the local area. I have also spent time in Lá Marina on a very large camp site. We are heading down again this year to calpe and generally the clientele is a good mixture of all of Europe plenty of local transport options and Benidorm if you like that type of thing is just down the road. Some magnificent scenery and reasonably priced restaurants are also to be found. Many of the places are pre booked but it is still possible to get good long stay deals
Regards
Chalkey

Parking Lá marina

Hi Thomas, we were at Lá Marina 2 years ago and it was very busy with no vacancies. We parked up on the beach at the rear while awaiting to get a place in the camp site. A couple of restaurants are also there. I have since heard that the police now move people away, I am not able to confirm if true or not. The site is huge with restaurant and bar evening entertainment. A spa is also on site. We were unable to book and as far as I remember the only way in is through cancellation. I hope this helps all the best. Regards Derek

We’re going that way too for the winter, around Calpe/Jávea/North of Alicante...... we sail Cork-Santander on 31st October with no return planned but sort of thinking around March 2019.
Following this topic with interest and maybe meet up with a few fellow motorhomers while out there.

Great almost toll free road down to calpe from santander via zarragossa a must see is teruel if weather not to cold quite high altitude good safe Aire opposite the POLICE. For the romantics visit the catheadersl and the djago isabelle mummy's. Another good stop is at the sport center in casscante 60km before Zarragossa just of the main motorway. We will also possibly be taking the ferry to santander. But things could change as I have kids and grand kids in Germany and I might be traveling from there. Its a hard life lol. Calpe and the region are definitely worth a visit and I find the town ideal for winter stops. Plenty of sightseeing in the area and a relaxed atmosphere.

I was told the campsite in (Santa pola) South of alicante is good. It is a large fishing port.open 12 months. Not too expensive.

Another very popular long term free Aire is at cullerea about 40km south from Valencia a lot of Europeans spend the winter here, also the aire at Valencia is great for visiting the city. The train stops just outside of the aire. The restaurant in the aire is also not too bad and reasonably priced.

With so many regulars booking year to year, it can be difficult for a newcomer to find a long-term plot in the more popular sites.

In Feb 2017 we found many sites on the coast to be full and eventually got a plot at Camping Bellavista, Aguilas where we stayed for seven weeks. We enjoyed the site which is close to the town of Aguilas and it has a local bus service from the gate.

When we checked out in April we went to our first choice (which was full in Feb) Camping Playa Mazarron for a month.
While there we booked for last winter 2017/18 and had a plot waiting for us when we arrived in late October, See blog

Playa Mazarron has a special tariff called a Bono which gets 30 nights including ehu for €400.

Good deal here for winter 2018/19, anyone any experience?
Marjal-Costa offers Winter 2018-2019 at €357 per month inc electric.

Stayed there in Feb 2017. Great campsite but you need transport or be prepared to use the MH to do any heavy shopping or visiting other places. There is only one small town which is called Catral within walking or cycling distance

Lá MARINA / marjal

I visited both sites and found that The Facilities at Lá marina were far supiror. Both sites are quite close together and are ideal for bicycle riding with a lidl China shop and market on Saturday very close. Ebikes can be rented just up the road from lidl and make getting around a lot easier. Torrevia, rojales, Lá Mata Santa pola, can all be visited by local bus which stops at lidl.all of these locations have good weekly markets to visit. We had a motorbike while there and this obviously made things very simple. The local area is quite flat and easy to get around. Nice Riverside walks from Majal can also be had i loved watching the locals catching fish from the river the beach at the rear of Lá MARINA is lovely and nice to sit and relax. Dogs can also be walked at Lá MARINA a wooden boardwalk goes all the way to the beach.

E mailed la marina campsite for price for month of November.826 euro,2 people ,6 meter van ,with WiFi,and electricity. I think it's crazy price, they are near full for winter months.i know of many other sites ,that are just half the price.shop around folks ,is my advice.

Crazy price, that equates to €27.50 p/n
Definitely sites there at about half that price, will do a bit of homework over the weekend to see what we can get.
Anyone else with ideas, quotes, offers or reccomendations ..... be a good idea to post it on this thread.

Try one of the new sites in Calpe No advance bookings are taken on either of the two new sites turn up and if space is available good rates are to be got there are now 5 sites/Aires to choose from. We are booked into pariso camping I read in a motor home magazine that the police will be moving people from parking overnight on the streets this year so the sites will be extremely busy.

Pretty Good rates on that site Derek, I priced 2 months last night and had this response this morning, I suppose when you factor in 2 dogs and electric it weighs in at about €400 per month.

Hello,
The Price for 2 months in low season is,
The first month……330€. The Price include two adults and the motorhome. The electricity is 0.45€/kW, around 1€/day and the dogs pay 0.90€/day.
The second month…..315€. Include the same.
If you need more information or if you would like to make a reservation, please, send us again an email.
Best regards,
Camping Playa Paraíso.

I am straying off topic, so apologies in advance.
I have met a few people who go back to the same campsites every winter and they enjoy it, they know what to expect, what is around them, they socialise with the same people every year.
For me this would be a nightmare I have a motorhome not a static. I have moved off places I have stayed because of neighbours and the thought of committing to a pitch to find that my neighbour is even more than an ar*ehole than me worries me.
Plus the weather can vary and a 50 mile journey can make the difference between sunshine or rain.
Each to their own and all that I have wheels a handbrake and an accelerator and I will be using them all in 100 days time.

Just had a look on the web, it looks perfect. What's the situation regarding wildcamping in and around the town?

Just outside in both directions there were places last year but the town is narrow not good for a large MH

Excuse the slow reply, I’ve been in the montanas, Salobreña and the surrounding districts are wonderful. Maybe not for those that want electricity and mains water connections etc. There are plenty of options if you are interested in the real motor-home time.

José
