Lets not discuss politics of brexit, but....

Lets discuss the fact that Stuarts are no longer quoting for NI, Staveley Head in England refused me a quote yesterday as I have a BT postcode, whereas a few months ago they were the cheapest.

Anyone find anyone else that have started refusing?

Not refused but new updated documents from Dolmen to reflect Brexit, amending from AXA Ireland to AXA NI. Perhaps Aviva/Stuarts are waiting to see the way the whole thing works out as Aviva may not have a NI subsidiary the way AXA has.

(What about Adrian Flux, they were reportedly the cheapest a year or so back)

My existing insurance is with Adrian Flux, I just got a quote from flux direct with another broker Mustard.co.uk at £384 which beat caravan guard at £550!

Problem with AF, I have to notify them 5 days in advance before entering ROI!

The really annoying thing about that is someone is getting huge money to think of that stupid rule , if you're insured in 5 days time why are you not insured now

Has anyone ever given you a reason for the 5 days? That sounds completely daft.
Dose it also mean that say you wanted to go from Armagh to say Wattle Bridge or Derrydoon or Newtownbutler you would have to go up around Aughnacloy .how would they know if you took a shortcut.

No and it's a new'ish insurance, I was a bit surprised when I got the email to say I had to advise them. The first time I did just that for Vantastival in June. Then I got an email to say they would let it go this time but in the future I need to give them five days notice, crazy! Think I'll email them, although it has been mentioned on here before.

How many days notice do have to give them if you're travelling to France?

I renewed with AF in March and do not (as far as I am aware) have this stipulation on my policy - it may depend on who you are with i.e. Mustard?

No, this insurance was direct through Adrian Flux, the quote I got today was through Mustard.

I just looked out the email, I am in fact wrong, it's 7 days!!

I have checked my policy and I don't have this wording but have emailed AF as they are now closed. Could be a PITA having to email them 7 days in advance each time - esp when travelling to France via Ireland. It could well be because of Brexit and will be an overhead for them to manage 🇧🇭

All I'm Hearing is that it's time to set up a breakdown service that simply tows you back over the border into eligible insurance areas - cause you can be damn sure most people won't know or don't follow that!

Nonsense... Hopefully once certainty is brought in for business it'll simply go back to how it was!

I have A. FLUX insurance renewed in may, it was the same premium as last year. I phone them when travelling south and receive a confirmation E mail within hours.
I have even phoned them within hours of leaving and have never had a problem. They where also the cheapest.

Yea for all travel to Europe, they are a Uk cover company. I get 90 days cover anywhere outside Uk.
Any more its an extra charge. Its about right for me, for my trips throughout the year.

I am with A Flux too and found them by far the cheapest. I would have got a multi vehicle reduction as I have my car & two classic military vehicles insured with them too. Motorhome Insurance taken out with them a few months ago and no mention of notifying them before heading south. Would need to check my paperwork though. The BT35 South Armagh area was always supposed to draw an insurance premium 🙄

I've just renewed with Adrian flux so I have had a look at my policy, the company that covers me is Ageas. There is no mention of any notice before going to ROI , which is good or else I would be constantly on the phone . It says I am covered for all EU countries with no limitations of how long I spend there. It also says my cover works instead of needing a green card .

Who is Ageas , we had a car insurance company in ROI who went bust , I think they were operating out of Malta and screwed alot of customers , the name Ageas makes me suspicious but I don't know who they are and could be wrong

I had a narrow escape with them, I had the Jeep insured with them the year before they went bust. I think they only insured vans but I could be wrong

Ally, I have never notified AF on previous policies but this year it appears that you do need to contact them if driving across the border. A bit of PITA to be honest but I just email them the dates in advance i.e. France, Dublin, Donagheys weekend and some poor back office person has to create a PDF document for each trip and email it out. Absolute nonsense that must cost ££ in terms of admin overheads but better to be safe than sorry with insurance.

I now have a second policy, running alongside the other, with AF and there was no mention of it.

I think it depends on the company :-/

No mention in my documents either - it was only when I spoke to AF to check and that they advised that I do need to notify them

Surely when you take out an insurance policy you should know what you are covered for ,why should you have to telephone someone at a later date to see what you are covered for. This stinks of bureaucracy gone mad.
