I received a phone call from a friend, Paul (chevy g20) a few months ago "want to buy an RV?"

After my last RV fiasco I told him to "go away" (aye right)

Anyhow, it turns out it was the right money, I love classics and it sounded interesting. With the help of Paul and his American mechanic giving it the once over I bought it without seeing it but I trust these guys and that's rare these days.

Paul sent me some photos of how it looked just before I purchased it...

Will continue..............

And for those Breakiing Bad aficionados there may be an element of surprise in the partial registration in the last photo.

After quite a few weeks on a Saturday I got to see it, that explains our recent trips to Gortin Lakes :)

The following day we convinced the mechanic to get it started and it was brought to his house on trade plates. It was great to hear it firing up! All 6.2 CC's!! (Diesel V8) Finally got a good look around it and it got its first wash in nearly two years (or maybe longer)

It looked better after a wash :)

Nice machine - I've seen 2 or 3 absolute classic campers around the roads the last couple of weeks - great to see! Also we won't have the oldest van next meet 😆😂

After a good look over by the yank, it needed some work and a load of parts, all serviceable stuff, so nothing major.

Transmission Filter and gasket set
Mufflers
Oil and air filters
Oil
Fuel Filter
4 new headlights, chrome had rusted.
Boiler safety pressure valve (was leaking)
Habitation door window
Glow plugs

But the major stuff was a rewire. Some feckin eegits had tried to wire in a Military grade Generator, about 8 KW's or so. It had then been taken out and all the wires left were a mess. A huge isolator was installed which had to ripped out.

We went down with SWMBO one Saturday and gave it a good clean inside, carpets, upholstery etc. It's looking quite good :) - need a new mattress but that's for later. Want to get it MOT'd and get it home.

Stainless Steel stuff was brought back to life inside. Interior photos later.

Lack of tax mot and insurance might have had something to do with it.... lol we had trade plates though and on route to the mechanic so were ok.

Best of luck with the new wagon.
My only advise is that the wagon is 1991 with hacked wiring is to do a complete rewire with 2018 technology. It will cost a good few pounds but the results will ensure future comforts.
Malcolm
Ps, keep the old wires because a bossman may give you top dollar for scrap.

Cracking looking RV Ally.....Reminds me of the RV I had when living in the US. She was a 28ft Champion of 1984 vintage...complete with 70's style orange interior!....Had a fabulous 7.4 L Chevy V8 though.

Same engine as my last RV and it got around 21/22, So I am hoping the same, I seen another for sale and they quoted 20MPG at 60MPH.

My own averages 22.5, so not a massive difference, but there is a huge difference in price to buy. So it all works out in the end :)

A few after a good interior clean. Cooker Stainless Steel machine polished.

Pretty good for 27 years old :) - I'll go for a modernisation later.
