We bought a motorhome today! Deposit paid anyway, bought from a really nice family in Armagh. It's really old but it's been looked after and we're delighted with it :-) We were going to rent for a week at a thousand pounds plus penalties for this that and the other so decided to put the money into our own wagon and have the freedom of the road!

I'll probably be back asking for advice from you all we really are clueless but it was a good price and we'll give it a good run this summer :-)

It's a 1994 with 70,000 miles on it. Pretty good inside just curtains and blinds need looked at. I don't know if we're bonkers getting it but even if we only use it a few weeks we'll get our money's worth. Think we're going to love it though :-D We've already booked a ticket for Stendhal in Aug :-)

Mine is 94 and I have had it 2 years at the end of May. I have spent 307 nights away in it since I got it with only one breakdown lol. The immobiliser kicked in when I hit a pothole.
Best of luck with your new van and hopefully you will get as much enjoyment out of it as I have.

Well done on making a leap of faith and I hope that the miles travelled are both many and happy.
Curtains and blinds can be easily fresh in up, after all they are usually the first thing to be thrown out when a 20 + year house is bought.
The only advise that I would recommend is get the mh into a trusted mechanic and give it a full service and check over. Replace critical things like timing belts etc, unless you are absolutely sure that it was done recently.
Been 94 reg, means that most parish mechanics are able to easily work on your van because of no modern day electronics.

Congratulations! Now say goodbye to all those weekend chores and things you’ve been meaning to try and do. Painting the fence, mowing the lawn, cleaning the bathroom, laundry, visiting relatives etc. etc. But hey, who needs a tidy house when you have a Motorhome?

Dust if you Must,
but you can only live in one home at a time, fortunately your home from now on ,is going to be where you ARE.

Thanks very much guys :-) Really excited about it. Picking up on Monday, straight to Mechanic for a lookover and then there's a nice man locally who sells / refurbishes vans. He's going to have a look to price for new leisure batteries and blinds, plus maybe fix a couple of broken bits.

We probably won't get away for another month yet due to holidays and visitors but you never know, we might get a sneaky night in! :-D

I'm getting insurance through Dolmen and there's basic breakdown cover but does anyone know if you can get onward journey / repatriation cover with anyone for a van that old (94)? AA? RAC? Anyone you recommend?

Someone wiser than me, (could be anyone really), said your first night in the MH should be outside your own house.

Then if you forget something you can nip into the house for it.

I wouldn't be inclined to do that ,you've heard of the dog house. you could be banished to it, I'm sure its in the very small print, that your not insured to live in your Motorhome in your own yard. I put it in mine. ;-)

[img][/img]So our mechanic gave her the onceover and all seems well. Might need a wee bit of work before the next MOT.

Took it to our local motorhome man he is a really nice man not looking to take an arm and a leg off us. He is going to repair blinds where possible and fit a new one, fit 2 leisure batteries and a rear view camera. Found a few small things e.g. broken bit on the fridge door, a crack in a tap but otherwise grand. Everything else can wait till we have tested her out.

Photos attached! (I think)

I think that's all there will be in the future the way things are going, or at least that will be the most economical. New ones are getting to the stage that if they break you throw them away like an old video player. Yeah I know that's a bit of a statement and a bit tongue in cheek, but it may become true.

:D

Van looks great well wear and many happy miles ahead for ye !
Our van is 99 and we are happy out a trusty screw driver kit and a vice grips are handy to have on board ,

Beware though we spend more time dickying up our little Bernie than we do spending time away in it , we love tinkering with it doing little improvements at a time , testing things out it’s all part of the motorhome experience ! Enjoy every moment
