Leisure battery feeding the ignition

While parking up the van for the winter, I disconnected the stater battery in the van today. Having disconnected the stater battery, there was still power to the ignition and cab door light. I then disconnected the leisure battery and everything went out. Any suggestions as to the problem. Was thinking that the split charge relay has given up the ghost and is stuck in the closed position.

Did you try reconnecting the leisure Battery to see if the ignition light came back on?

No. I have left everything disconnected. Was under a bit of time pressure today, so will try to get up to it next weekend and have a good root round.

Connect just the leisure battery up but leave the engine battery disconnected on both poles. Throw a multi meter across the two leads for the engine battery. If there is power between the clamps, there is a problem with the leisure battery charger.
However some EHU charging system can put power into the engine battery when hooked up. Find your charging unit a google it's make and model number. If there is a fault in the unit, Google will turn up a solution.

Finally got around to solving the problem.

I got onto Scheiber, and they sent me on a schematic for the charger panel etc.

The relay on the PCB is kaput, so rather than trying to get the near 20 year old PCB repaired, I got a standalone relay and wired it in, using the D+ input on the charger as the switching voltage.

All is well again! Till the next problem......

Micky,
Is your engine battery getting charge when you are plugged in?
If my understanding is that the relay is a one way valve sort o speak and triggered by the D+ (from the alternator) so if the engine is turned off the relay is not letting the current flow?

Never got to check that out, as a i sold on the van soon after.

Part of the thinking was that at least the engine battery was isolated from the hab section when parked up, so it wouldn't be drained, leaving me stranded, unable to start the engine.

Thanks for that Mickey,
I might be fitting a relay aswell,
Ill worry about charging engine battery if I have to.
