Staying in touch.

I'm heading to Spain in May for a few weeks and I'm looking for suggestions for internet, email, blog, etc. I'll bring my phone with me but as I don't use it a lot I'm on a limited plan (€15/month) for calls, texts and data. What I'm thinking, as I don't want to bring my laptop, is buy an inexpensive tablet and get a Spanish data sim for internet coverage. Am I on the right track or totally off the wall ? Any suggestions or advice welcome.

Consider upping your plan to get more data for the duration of your trip Liam,
May work out easier on the pocket in the lkng run,

Before you do anything make sure your service provider allows you to hotspot whilst roaming

I looked at something similar when we went to France last summer. In the end it was cheaper to increase my data allowance on the phone for that particular month and hotstop the phone to the tablets and etc.

Check out Three as well as you can use your data allowance abroad in a lot of countries through their “Feel at Home” system. They do prevent you using your phone as a hot spot while outside your home network though so you can’t use it as a modem for an iPad etc .

I buy it off eBay and it works down South. I don’t know if you have to initiate it in the North I buy it from prepaymania, for £19.95 have a look on eBay. There is a 24 gb one that lasts 12 months. I cant add a link, not that great with computer stuf.

I just checked their coverage checker, nothing for down south.

3 data sim needs to be activated in the Uk to avail of the cheap roaming otherwise the data will go like snow off a ditch. There is also some anecdotal evidence that it is worth turning on the data for a short period of time when you return to the uk otherwise they assume you are roaming and continue to count the days. There is an upper limit for use abroad in any one chunk of time after which they can block the sim.

Thanks for all the replies folks, plenty of homework for me to do in the next few weeks. Unfortunately I can't simply upgrade my data allowance for the time I'm away, they're doing their best to get me off the plan I'm on. As if €15 a month wasn't enough profit for them. I'll let ye know what system I decide to go with nearer the time.
