Yep prices have gone up, just paid €152.9 per ltr for diesel on a motorway service station supermarket diesel circa €1.38. In Spain it was generally about 1.10 to 1.20. LPG also more expensive in France.

It's not short term. There was a government duty increase back in autumn. Much the same as in Ireland now (away from autoroutes of course).

Just Paid 1.33 Euro at garage at exit of port at Cherbourg and 1.41 for super dooper diesel on A10 south of Paris. The motorway is 1.50-1.56. Van only did 19.6 mpg from port to here. So far we have been charged Class 2 . They were looking Class 4 but I did my usual and said it was a camping car

Pat, the higher rate of bio diesel, is known as city diesel.
I got a fill of diesel in Nantes last August late one night from a credit card pump. There was 3 diesel nossels. Between tiredness and lack of English translation, I eventually got fuel. The next morning my wife Google translated the docket and the answer was diesel of city. We thought no more of it.
A couple of months later our engine failed. After it was striped down, the injectors were deformed and broken. The rebuild mechanic reckons that a fill of pure bio diesel would cause the penultimate damage to the injectors, which eventually led to engine failure. Seeming on modern engines the common rail fuel system needs to be recalibrated to cope with high levels of bio diesel.
A wise man has since advised me, when faced with 3 diesel nossels again, pick the most expensive product.

Between the euro to stg shift and the price of Diesel in France the current price is up 50% nearly on what it was 2 years ago, makes some difference when doing two to three thousand miles on a trip.

Maybe that is one of the reason's why Brittany Ferries have put on the new service , if you put that price against the fuel used in a truck to get to Spain.
The ferry cost may be a no brained .

My thinking too.
I think the new Spanish route will do very well considering all the variables including the fuel, the tolls and time saved traveling.
It is priced only slightly more expensive when all considered.

I must keep tabs on our fuel usage down to the Spanish border in May from Cherbourg/ Roscoff, can't remember which. Plus any tolls to see how it stacks up and we are 5.3 tonne and only 20 mpg driving the Merc handy :O

Robbie. When you factor in the tolls it makes it very expensive. At one of the automated gates the screen asked me for 119 euros and that was only Paris towards Lyon. I told them I was a camping car and got away with 54 euros

Now May 2019, for those of you away how are you finding fuel prices in France this year, and compared to here at home.
What about other surrounding countries?

Cheapest diesel I got in France was 1.38 on the motorway leaving Nantes. Generally 1.569. Dearest I seen was 1.62. All on Motorway. Seen 1.369 off Mway
1.269 here on costa brava near Figueres

David. 1.38 is cheap for the motorway. Did you see the mechanical elephant in Nantes

Not this trip, he couldn’t keep up 🤣
Ben was giving me gip about the lack of sunshine. Was moving fast.
Have seen it previously though. Very impressive
Yeah I was very surprised. It was just after you get on the Mway though. Only a few km out of Nantes. Probably they had to keep competitive with the city. I availed if it anyway 😉
