Anyone get a saorview box for their van yet? I expect one will be necessary but haven'y yet purchased as I haven't heard how well they work in vans. I assume the existing van aerial works the same as on house ones.

I put one in a few weeks ago it works great much better than the normal tv picture but it is 220 volt system we was unable to get a 12volt system, did not have to change anything on the aeriel the box can also pick up the UK and French etc stations so I will test it during the summer for the craic the only problem I had was there is only 1 scart socket working on the back of the tv so with the satelite and saor view i had to put in a change over box/switch it would not work conected to the satelite as the sound and picture was bleeding from one system to the other.

It is possible to get a scart lead that has 3 scart plugs.
The picture problem you describe is often linked to poor quality scart leads, they have insufficent screening between the send and return to the TV and the signal bleeds over, try and get a scart lead with a type U cable, it has proper internal screened leads

if you get an inverter for the saorview box this would probaly work and wont use much battery power as power needed for box should be small just an idea i have not done this but i cant see them making a 12v box but you can get a 12v tv with saorview built in cost about e 300 (ouch ) :o

Bought from Irwin Electrical in Letterkenny for €79, got it for €75.
You need the 12v cig lead as it only comes with the 3 pin plug and adaptor for home use.

The latest news on RTE Saorview in the North is; in addition to the normal transmissions Brougher Mountain main transmitter, the Carmoney hill and Black Mountain masts will transmit RTE1, RTE2 and TG4 on Nimux T2 transmissions, Not all Soarview box's support this format.

I bought this in Argos a couple of months ago. DVD player built in, takes USB and has Saorview. I spent a couple of weeks over in the Lake District in England. I re-tuned it when I got there and picked up 96 free to air TV and Radio stations with just the round ariel on the roof. I also managed to get this for 150 Euro when they were bringing out the new catologue. If anyone is considering buying a new TV in the future, it might be worth considering buying one of these in the Republic as I could get digital stations in Ireland and England. It is probably necessary to re-tune it if you are moving a large distance, but this will probably be the case with them all. This also has a handy auto-tune feature.
