20 amp fuse should be ample.

Is this to a 20a solar regulator?

One fuse usually enough but of course that might depend on how you are wiring them.

Usually two wires from regulator which feeds both batteries, fuse the positive one.

my battery controller is 20amp and two leisure battery connections so i was going to use two 10amp fuses from the two positives on my batteries does that sound alright

The fuse goes on the positive before the batteries. So there is one fuse, in the diagram that is 5 amp. I'm not sure that is big enough, I am no electrician, maybe someone else will post.

Its been some time since I fitted solar on a van but my memory is there was a 20A fuse between the panel and controller and a 20 A between the controller and the batteries

See Ally's diagram

You should use a single cable for the positive and a further single cable for the negative from the controller to the first battery. 4mm2 cable is fine between the controller and the first battery if your length is short. If 5m or more use 6mm2. Fit a single 20amp fuse to the positive only, between the controller and the first battery.

Assuming that you have already connected the two batteries together there will already be a loop for the positive and negative to the second battery.

If you have not yet installed the second battery make sure both batteries are fully charged FIRST, then fit a 50mm2 loop for the positive and negative between the first and second batteries.

I've fitted 3 of these kits now from this eBay supplier.
Excellent quality, the dual controller is very good as it keeps starting battery topped up too and coupled to the remote monitor it is superb. The price is really really good, for the specs/output/quality and the service from Photonic-universe is second to none.
I've no connection to the company other than very pleased customer with their products and service.

Photonics-universe solar kit on eBay.

If this is the controller in question it has two completely independent outputs which are intended for separate battery systems eg leisure battery (s) and engine battery.

There is no need to connect both outputs. Just connect output 1 to your two leisure batteries as per my post above

You need to fit a 20amp fuse in the positive between the solar panel and the controller and a further 20amp fuse in the positive between the controller and the battery.

Apart from anything else the fuse between the solar panel and the controller allows you to isolate the controller if you need to work on it.

Note that there will be voltage on the output of the solar panel as it will get light as you fit it. Cover the panel with a blanket during the time you connect it up. Connect the solar panel last after everything else is connected.

My controller arrived today i have two flooded leisure batteries it says after i have choosen the battery setting. Charging priority is the next step it says the charge settings go from 0% battery 1 to 100% battery 2 or 90% battery 1 to 10% battery 2, If i pick the second option when battery 1 is fully charged will it automatically start charging battery 2 and visa versa hope you understand this message

The charge setting is only relevant if you are using both battery outputs on the controller.

If you connect only to output 1 and nothing to output 2 then all of the charge current will automatically go to output 1

Yes

When you get all connected and the sun is shining up you can check yourself.

Measure the terminal voltage of each battery; they will both be the same

Battery 1 is usually van battery and battery 2 the leisure battery or battery's I personally would send a 100% of power to the leisure batteries as van battery will take care of it's self

Voltage from the panel is very much dependant on light and the angle of the sun. On a very bright summer day you should get somewhere in low 20s volts. Absolute maximum will be 23 to 24 volts. On a day like today you should get high teens, maybe 20 volts in the early afternoon. As light fails the voltage will fall until it reaches zero when it is dark.

The output voltage will depend on the input voltage and also the state of charge of your batteries. In the middle of the day you should get somewhere between around 12.8volts when your battery is fully charged and around 14.4volts when it is discharged.

Please report back on what voltage you measure Nd the time of day you do the test.
