RV Toilet Woes

 ·

We've bought an RV. More on that later.

On Tollymore Campsite until New Year.

Been reading the manuals etc and we seem to have 20 gallon black water tank and 40 gallon fresh water. The toilet is filling very fast and the fresh water is disappearing very fast, both within two days. Now the only thing I can think of is that the fresh water is going into the black water tank through the rinse/flush. But the pump would need to come on and we can't hear it doing that.

We've emptied the black water tank twice since getting here on Saturday, now Wednesday morning and filled the fresh water tank twice. Surely there must be a fault or do I need to cut down on the carlsberg?

Anyone of you RV'ers got any idea's?

Is there a grey waste tank too or is all grey and black in the one tank?

Isn't there some valve that advises you to fill black tank (to top it up with clean water )before emptying to make sure all contents get pushed out,

Congratulations on the new RV Ally
Not sure what's happening on why your black tank is filling up so quicly
20 gallons (US) is 75 litres - a lot bigger than the 18 litres held by the Thetford.

If Carlsberg made black tanks they would probably be......

Don't know if this applies to yours Ally but seemingly in many RVs, the bathroom sink is piped to the black tank, not the grey tank http://www.irv2.com/forums/f25…693-2.html

If that is the case it wouldn't be the hardest job to re plumb it to the grey id say Ally

Kept an eye on it for 24 hours, it seems we were just heavy on the water and the toilet! All seems good now, think we just expected too much as had been reading about people going for days and days without emptying, so we weren't careful at all and were treating it like being at home:)

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Because it happened twice worried us but think we have an idea why it happened the first time. Bit of toilet roll was jammed between the flap. On this system, I assume all RV's are the same?, if the flap isn't closed right the toilet keeps on flushing.

@2424 A few :)

Considering removing the RV style toilet and replacing with a Euro cassette style.

No need to move the van to empty, can empty in most locations, we are not having a great time trying to get the toilet emptied!

Seems to make sense to change it, this country is not geared up for the present system as far as we can figure out.

Yeah have looked at those options, thing is, it's 20 US Gallons. Once you open it to let it out, there is not a lot going to stop it!

Have looked at 20 gallon cassette for holding it, they have an automatic shut off when full, but what about the bit inbetween?

Also imagine the weight, that's not going to be easily lifted to empty into the usual emptying points.

Caravan cassettes are the same as motorhome cassettes. Have you seen something different Sprinter??
