Faulty Fridge?

My fridge when on 12volt, sometimes won't come on. There is no light on the front, then other times it works great.

Does it need a certain amount of engine revs as it's run of the alternator? or perhaps it charges batteries to full first? Just clutching at straws, probably faulty?

I assume you mean while driving.

Do you have enough charge in your leisure battery ?

If the battery is in poor condition it may not be holding its charge.

Mind you I would imagine the fridge to be very hard on the battery. We always run ours on gas if there is no hookup. [b]

Might be better asking Leisure Tech Solutions about that one.

Sounds like intermittent electrical fault, if working ocassionally!!

The fridges usually run of a seperate relay, generally of the alternator/engine battery, a little more info on motorhome type and fridge details could help, all manufacturers wire the fridges in different ways.

Lunar Champ 670G and Dometic fridge.

It's under warranty but always nice to be armed with the information so I can beat them into submission :)

Ally

we are the main representives for dometic in ireland

www.dometicapproved.co.uk

Could be a 12v supply fault to the fridge, or indeed the fridge control panel. I would be checking for appropriate 12volt at the fridge when it is not lighting, have you located the fuse for the 12v fridge Element when the engine is running, ( is lunar using the red 12volt/ Mains power unit? the fuse are all generally on it!!)

Yeah the red unit, it did blow a fuse when I first got it, but the fuse was in the engine bay. It affected the battery level indicator (engine) and the fridge, once that was replaced it hasn't blown again but the fridge is intermittent on 12volt.

Fuses all ok on the red power unit.

Where is the 12v Fuse on Hessy?

Hessy's cooling the beer grand on hook up and tried the Gas this weekend for the first time and it works a treat, but when i tried to switch it on when driving - there is no indicator light on the rocker switch. :'(

It is the Electrolux RM275 and the installation manual shows that there is a fuse inline.
Hessy is a A534 Unit.

Question - if the fuse was blown - would it still run on the 240 hook up?

I opened up the back of the unit and could not see an inline fuse. :'( The switch shows minimum voltage on the rocker - but shows an "on" and "off" voltage when the engine is not running. (have to test when running to see)

Adjacent to the fridge etc is the power transformer unit and connector blocks - no fuses in there :'(
Not in the engine bay or the Ducato fuse /relay area :'(

I have 6 or so fuses to the left of the steering wheel - but i think it is a swtiching over issue instead or does anyone any ideas where a fuse might be located?
Thanks for your help

You wouldn't get 12 volts to the fridge without the engine running it would be to severe on the battery. There would need to be a relay which switches the voltage to fridge only when the engine is running, thats the way I used to wire them in the caravans but the same principal would apply.

I've just the same prob so today I took the front panel of the fridge and replaced both switches with ones that show a light when on so I now know when the fridge is on 12 volt and also 240 volt while I was at it I took the burner of as well as the flu took the baffle out and cleaned it all up put the gas on after putting it all back together the fridge was at 21c and is now down to10.3 I'm going to leave it on all night to see what it will be in the morning

When the engine is started - i was switching the switches on/off and looking at the Ammeter which drops slightly when the battery switch is turned one way from another - so it is drawing a current - although not a huge amount (0.5 Amp maybe). Something is happening.

Then i have another Switch in the same Fridge / Cooker / Control area with a Red indicator light and Silver Toggle Switch beside it. It has an ignition lightening spark symbol beside it - but It does nothing - You can hear a relay coming on in behind when the engine is on and the battery switch is drawing slight current.
