Not for me but I am asking for someone else. Their insurance has just went up by £200 and the insurance company no longer insures anything over 7500 CC.

So any recommendations? thanks

I'll send him a link to this thread.

Try Autoline in Coleraine I am finding them very accommodating and reasonable.

I'm with sureterm, around 290.00 limited to 4000 miles (although I might have mistakenly added 10k to the initial mileage reading and add 4k to this each renewal ) although it is probably pointless as mot records mileage each year.
However I am only 5700 cc and don't know if they cover the big blocks

Has the van reached a milestone age such as 20. Or has the driver. Mine went up last year and it was explained that it was because it was 20 years old. Coincidentally my America car insurance came down in price because it also was 20 years old, and was no longer a modern classic and had entered classic status. What a load of b*lls. Surely the van should have become a classic also, but they said it was a different kettle of fish, as for example camper appliances are less like to be maintained therefore more fire risk. I explained that I didn't even have an appliance or secondary heating, but it was one shoe fits all and they wouldn't budge.

My mechanic got his American cars and pickups insured with autoline and they were ridiculously reasonable, I had planned to contact them when my renewal

Yeah I've found them excellent as I have a number of classics and they talk my language. I would give them full marks and that's something from me.

Bit late coming to this, I insured ours with Stewarts in Dublin for £370.00 fully comp, value to £70k. Unlimited windscreen cover, important with a large RV ( a windscreen can dost £2000+ !) and get you home breakdown cover all over Europe, again, important when you"re 9 ton ! It"s with Aviva Insurance (I think) and have been happy so far, as last year when we had engine trouble, a mechanic was sent out straight away, no quibbles.

Do they have tiered price bands based on engine size, or do they have a flat rate?

Dolmen were looking for an additional €100 as our engine was over 6 litres.

I have had competitive quotes of Flux in recent years but I'm reluctant to get involved with them due to a friend having a serious problem with them 15 years ago.
As with any classic policy they ensure that you have a policy on a daily to prevent miss use of the daily as a main vehicle at a reduced rate. When his wife had an no blame accident Flux informed his daily insurers who completely removed his 60% no claims.

Chevy 15 years is a long time ago and probably all the staff there then have moved on by now to somewhere else.

but bad memories will stay forever

Yes it took them another six years to catch back up. Other companies at the time just wanted to know you had a daily driver in the era before multilinked information. My friends believed that they were separate policies.

It's still the same, if I have a claim on my motorcycle insurance I am supposed to report it to my car insurance, why I will never understand as they are two totally different vehicles
