I've just parked my RV in the driveway of a very good friends house for a few days at Christmas time! just like cousin Eddie does at Chevy Chases house on "National Lampoons Christmas Vacation" - you should watch it..... Very funny and that's an iconic line from it as the hill billy cousin empties his tanks into a manhole on the street in a very nice neighbourhood.....

What a great resource this forum is.... Left my mates house in Slane today and took a baby step as far as Camac Valley and as I was dropping the hydraulic stilts a lad pulls in beside me and asks.... "Are you whippy?"

Waterman and Whippy have met now anyway!

That's great John!
With the amount of members going to Athlone on NYE now we might take you up on your offer and hold the meet in your Rv instead. Do you still need us to bring logs and turf?

I'm currently taking baby steps down the southern end of the country but were learning quickly and are gaining confidence. Although heading in the wrong direction I'm confident we'll be making an appearance in Athlone.

I did have a battery drain (seemingly leisure and engine) problem which got the better of me on day one but that was three days ago and all seems ok now. I'm not sure what it was but I'm fairly sure I was doing something wrong. Also, I've to make my way back up to dub city for the annual Porsche club agm and Christmas party on the night of the 29th. So, down - up - down - up - frankly, I'd rather do NYE than PCI dinner but I'll have to wrangle my way outta that one. If I did go up to that, then down again and then plan to take the RV up again to Athlone the following day, the reality is I'd be dying and not go to Athlone. So, best thing is to not go at all and make Athlone. :D

Myself and Waterman parked up in pitches side by side! ;-)

Sorry, the LED strip seems to fool all settings on my camera in the dark.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/8c19….18.54.jpg

The brats are loving the whole adventure.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/x3wi….18.48.jpg

Anyone about Camac Valley that can do washing up, us three lads can't! :(

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mb0x….18.59.jpg

I've blown some cash over the years on toys but I really think this one tops them all, we are loving it. It's looking like a dear hoor of a yoke to run but I think it was a cheap buy at only £22.5k stg. in comparison to renting one or what's on the market in Irl. in smaller units. Obviously shifting it on will be a challenge as the HGV Licence requirement won't suit very many prospective purchasers but I can see us getting it's purchase price out of it in value over a few years very easily and then I'll just give it as a present to one of you guys............. :fgrin: o.O

Yes, FC I agree. I'm a Guinness drinker only but don't like cans of it, draught only for me. I find that the consumption of any lager is a certain downside of this camping lark.

Thanks folks, waterman you guys looked well shut down for the night when we got back from Tesco last night so I didn't bother you and sorry we weren't up before you guys left this morning, the lads are still waking for two hours or so from about 4am to 6am as they are still on Central Asia time. :(

Thanks drifter! I'm only in it 4 nights now I think so I'll hold council for a while as I'm sure there's still a novelty factor involved in our adventure but a mate of mine called by this afternoon and we both would have been the victim of some fairly substantial kicks in the b*lls over the first few years of the recession and we just had a conversation about how serious an option living in one of these would be as a very plush, very comfortable yet very cheap option in hard times to rebuild....

Again, that might change after a few weeks or months of it but we both know of a lad who climbed on his sailing yacht one day in early 2009, sailed out of a west coast marina and hasn't been seen since. Him and the missus (no kids) are living off what they took with them (or wherever they stashed it) and they don't intend to return ever..... Kinda attractive isn't it?!?
