I have been using the e-vapour electronic fag, in an attempt to cut down. I'm down from 4 pkts of cigars a day to 1 or 1 1/2 pkts a day. So far I've saved approximately £ 85 in a week, but I should be putting the cash in a jar to help strengthen my will power. However I seldom have used cash to physically pay for my habit, generally paying by debit or credit card and not realising that the cost had escalated to £140 quid per week.

I'm off them 11 years this December. Believe it or not I still get the odd craving for a smoke from time to time. Its a bad habit that never quite leaves you...

I did the "money in a jar" incentive.

I smoked 30 Marlboro light per day before I gave them up. That was around €10/day at the time (or was it IR£ punts, I cant remember). Anyway I got myself an old Nescafe jar and ceremoniously dropped a tenner into the jar each evening to celebrate another smoke free day. After a year or so I had a decent amount of cash to upgrade my car.

At the cost of cigs these days imagine how much you'd save... You'd need a bigger jar than the one I had...

Take it day by day Ally and fair play for taking the first step...

im off them 8 years and loving it

it was the hardest thing i have had to do but it is worth it,

ally a word of advise for you,
if you dont want to give up your self just keep smoking and dont waste your time like i did,
i tried 3 times before i finally realised i was getting nagged from all sides and i was still having the one on the sly because i didnt really want to give up my self,

but then i decided for my self it was time and i havnt looked back since (well havnt looked back sober :-) anyway) :fgrin: :fgrin:

right heres an incentive for you!!!!!!!!!!!
if you stay off them from now until the kilkenny craic meet ill bring you a six pack......carlsberg isnt it?

id say a few more craicers might do the same?

No this time I want to give up for me and the family. I am more determined than I have ever been. Bad family history for heart attacks etc and my cousin aged 42 died last Friday from a heart attack. Time to wise up :)

Now that is an incentive!! :-)

I'm off the dreaded weed 6 yrs now it was'nt the money at the time it was my health, I took a wee turn as they say, my BP went through the roof spent the night in the UHD, as it happened was not totally related to smoking , anyway had good look around me at others in ward and the decision was made. On a lighter note at the time I was adding about £2000 to my pension per yr. stop now it's never to late, life's good this side of the grass.

But......... I only had a few puffs last night, not even half a cigarette, which I think is pretty damn good for an EX smoking alcoholic :D

Well done Ally to have stayed off to now ,you have the worst bit over so no reason to go back ever. I smoked 4 packets a day until 25years ago when a 20 packet of Benson & Hedges was £1.39 . A lot more expensive today. Keep it up mate.
