I've just been in Cobh today. They have set out a fine parking area for motor homes in a lovely and convenient location. I'm not sure what facilities are there, there is certainly a drain for grey water. It is right on the water's edge about 200 meters from the cruise ship terminal and heritage centre.Maximum stay 48 hours, parking, as far as I could see is free. I was in the car and didn't stay. Other attractions in Cobh are the Titanic experience (you get lowered down the side of the ship in a lifeboat!) if that's your interest, visits to the magnificent harbour defence fort on Spike Island, the imposing St. Colman's cathedral. The harbour itself and the town with its Victorian promenade are worth a visit.
The motorhome aire, if it can be called that is well signposted in the approaches to the town. Maybe, with this example and that in nearby Midleton, the attitude of local councils towards motorhomes is changing.

I headed over to the MH parking area in Cobh for a look. There were half a dozen motorhomes there today.

I even met a Motorhome Craic'er... eamon t!! Thanks for the cuppa tea & the chat Eamon!

No electric hookup or water yet, but I was told there was a tap available a couple of hundred yards away.. What a nice area to park for a day or two...

a council with some sense.
i stayed in cobh 2 years ago in the old coastguard station and they were just starting to talk about making mhome parking at the seafront.

hi my father is down there at the minute he was talking to the lord mayor of the town and he was saying that they are not enforcing the 48 hours stay its just to keep the travellers out

Yes,stayed there recently, great location. Only 5 mins walk from the town of Cobh. Great if more town councils followed suit.

c obh is brilliant friendly andjohn mulvhill the mayor love us and promises toilets and water etc asap town is very friendly ,parking is signed and during days try to stay in side our area but at night or whenquiet park any where in vacinity guards barracks near and they do pop down to say hi ,
water as you drive out of site look left towards clde cac dead end yuo can drive to it and turn around ,toilets in heritage centre and on front past gardens,
lovely spot went for 1 night stayed 5

Victor, We are in Cobh at the minute we got here last night, The aire here is lovely, six vans here last night. I don't see any place to get water, empty grey water or the toilet. We did the boat trip to spike island today, it was very interesting , cost 27 euro for guided tour. It was late last night when we arrived and we only had a snack at a chipper and tonight we are eating in the van, tomorrow night we plan to eat out so we will report back. There is plenty of restaurants to choose from. Tomorrow we plan to do the Titanic tour.

We stayed at the new stopover last night - really great place, clean, great views across the water to Spike Island. Entertained by visiting seal in evening and visiting cruise ship turning round in tight space before berthing up first thing in the morning. For those liking an early morning dip there's. great place a couple of hundred yards the other way from Cobh - slipway and slack water. Thanks for the recommendation.

We went down to Cobh again today for a stroll. While we were there, I decided to have a look for that tap.... Its a bit further away than I was expecting...

Theres a fairly decent turning area just by the tap so no fear of getting into a tight spot.

I intended going and supporting the forward thinking councils in Cobh whilst on my trip south, and with councillor John's email to introduce myself to the craic in the town I thought I couldn't possibly miss out.
However I'm home from a glorious week in Killarney with severe guilt in my stomach at not having visited Cobh. I didn't have enough time for my trip but will be in Cobh before the year end. God bless Cobh (or Jehovah or Allah )

Can a hose be connected to this tap? also where is the grey water drain? there is one near the recylcling bins but I don't think it is intended for grey water!

I don't know Pat. The spout on this tap is kinda big. I'm not sure if one of those rubber universal tap fittings would fit over it?

Someone who has used it may be able to advise better...

Was at Cobh Wed/Thurs this week yes nice spot, handy to train station if wanting to visit Cork or maybe Fota Wild Life Park.With regard to the water tap I would think a rubber tap connector should fit, I always carry an 11 litre watering can which has proven very handy on more than one occasion.Grey water you have to work that one out, toilet matters where dealt with by using the train station or heritage centre adj to station, this preserves the usage of your toilet cassette as nowhere to empty.

Cobh visit this weekend

Hi All,
we decided to pay a visit to Cobh this weekend after hearing so much about the designated Camper parking area.Have to say going down there we ran in to diversions as the Irish Open Golf was on in nearby Fota and due to this we thought the area may be full but there was no problem as only 7 other vans were parked up. Our first impressions were-great location near the seafront and decent size berths. The sun was shining and we sat and chatted with our friendly new neighbour. We saw a passing ship heading for Roscoff. We then headed into Cobh for a meal and a few bevvies. It is approximately a 10 minute walk to the town centre. Plenty of restaurants around and some good lively pubs, most with music. The Titanic Bar was the best and we headed to the Commodore Hotel for a late one followed by a 15 minute walk back

Anyway we really enjoyed our first trip to Cobh and it will be the first of many

As I was in Cork today in the motorhome and I thought I would call round and have a nosey, it's a lovely spot and a short walk to the shops and restaurants. We have made a decision that we will definitely head to that part of the world and spend a few days touring around and make use of a great facility. Apart from us there was 5 other vans there including an rv and still room for more even though most of the bays were taken.

As a side note we got the biggest ice creams ever in one of the shops they were lush.
