We use a large roof mounted panel (was fitted so no idea.what size it is)

We had 5 days on non electric in Kilkenny at Easter 2011 without a problem. We have 2 110amp elecsol batteries.

It's great.

From what I have read the Elecsol batteries are very good. I am currently looking into solar panels too.

Yea AA The Platinum Batteries are good as well . Definitely Solar panel a good job to keep them in top condition.

Since make that post I have discovered that our panel is 120 watt.
It works very well, especially in the south of France last summer when it was producing over 9 amps a couple of times.

Even in our climate it works very well most of the year.

Yes the elecsol's have been great.

Im intending on installing a solar panel before the summer but dont really know much about them. Do you know what type of panel you have or the make of it?

120w is a good size to go for but no matter which one you want to buy just make sure you have enough room on the roof of the motorhome to mount it, Its surprising with windows/ vents etc how little spare room there can be for a biggish panel.

Finbarr my advice would be to go to someone who knows what they are doing. They come in many sizes now so there should be one to suite your needs.
Simon at LTS is great. A bit of a drive for you but I have seen many southern reg vans at his place.

I have no knowledge of installing solar but can assure you it is good.

Thank for that.
I think I will have to go with getting one fitted. I'm a great man for the DIY, but my long suffering wife who, over the years, has witnessed me dismantle the house and only half put it back together has indicated that there is a zone of about 2 metres all around the outside of the van, within which I'm not allowed any tools.
