Inflatable awning

 ·
Posted: 01.04.2018  ·  #1
Hi,
I'm looking at an inflatable awning for the motorhome.
Van is a 2000 Fiat Ducato Knaus Suntraveller. Height is 3.07m, length 7.78m.
I like the look of these,
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0…3532213797

I have a few questions,
What size should I get L or XL?
Would a 3 panel fit better than a 2 or just be awkward to use?
What type of connection would I need to connect to my current awning (Ominister, case awning)?

Thanks in advance!
Tomo

Most slide into the roll out awning rail by way of a connector strip, some people add a caravan style rail under the awning or to the side of the van to aid having a close attachment. To find which suits your van best measure from the bottom of the awning to the ground and that will determine either L or XL. Personally I went for a drive away which gives the option to attach via straps going over the van and pegged out on the other side. As for 2 or 3 panel what legngth is your awn8ng and which will fit best, where is your door/window in relation to the edge

Hi Tomo
The height you need to be concerned with is not the height of the van but the height of the Awning rail it is going to fit onto

Were you aware that there are two types of awning for m/hs one is fixed which is like the one you have found.
With this type you have to take it down fully each time you want to move or go out in the van, these are usually slightly cheaper than what are described as Drive Away which as the name suggests you simply have to unhook from the van and it will freestand whilst you go out in the van.

If you are happy with the first type you can also look at ones sold as porch awnings for caravans

I am going to throw you a curved ball. Do you mostly use campsites as your mainstay/ holiday or use a campsite and tour the surrounding area each day?
We have a free standing airbeam awning with table and chairs etc ( living quarters ) pitched about 6 feet from the campervan door. During wet weather we roll out the fiamma awning to keep dry.
The idea behind this is that the camper can drive away at any stage without upsetting the pitch layout too much. Also on a windy night we roll up the fiamma/ ominister awning and have no lashing straps banging our roof during the night.
The airbeam freestanding and hookon awnings are similar money to buy.
We purchased a 4 sided airhub from vango for €350 about 2 years ago which has been replaced by a 6 sided version since. A very sturdy bit of kit. A few craicer put it to test last summer at a craic meet in Athlone.

Thanks for all the info!
Plan is to go with the drive away inflatable awning. Hopefully not too much hassle finding a connection.
I'll report back.....

Try this gang , I got our drive away awning from them at a good price ( not inflatable ) but the do some inflatable tents so might be worth a search.

Don’t mean to high jack your post Tomo, but just wanted to ask Malcolm if the 6 sided awning you have is a drive away or is it completely freestanding (more of a tent?)
We have a Fiamma privacy room and though it’s great for the extra space, it’s a bit of hassle to put up, and it also means you can’t tour as it’s very much attached to the camper. What you described sounds more suitable.
I’ve looked at the vango site but I can’t seem to pinpoint the one you have.
Thanks.

Brilliant, thanks.
It’s so handy to have something that keeps your pitch set up but still enables you to tour, or pop to the shops if far away.

Just to add to my other post, the inflatable awning /tent is brillant in windy weather because they flex with the gales and there are no poles to break. The only downside is that the pegs supplied are crap, made out of a soft wire like clothes hangers. I changed to a rock peg, about 8 inches long hardened steel peg which are currently in Aldi special buys. They are dear at about €1 each but their holding power is great.

Malcolm looked at that Vango link, how bulky when packed up, and how heavy?...when trying to keep weight below 3500 kg.
We have a pop up gazebo, got a smaller size to fit on our deck, only used when doing renovations and needed to be under cover in rain, no sides, think smaller than average so hard getting sides.
In Ardmore last year talked to a guy called Liam, they stay all summer and they have an inflatable...I was impressed.
Like the idea as not a lot of space in out MH as can only seat 4....though usually only 2 of us
If using ACSI during discount period do they charge extra for these stand alone awnings.

Sorry r&n, I'm only getting back to your questions.
Our vango gazebo fits into a bag approximately 3 feet long, a foot high and a foot wide including the air pump. In all it weight is about 12 kg or 2 stone in old money.
We purchased from Charles Camping in Blessington and if memory is right, Nigel is the main guy to deal with regards vango stuff.
Some commercial sites have charged us extra for the awning while others don't bother.
We only put it up if we are staying for a few nights or if we need to clean out the MH after a few days away.

Reduced to €450
I saw this was advertised https://www.omearacamping.com/…8065-p.asp
What does anyone think? €299

I thought O‘ Mearas was inflatable, it is freestanding but would be a problem if windy. Poles snapping.

Decathlon Inflatable awning

In France I saw an inflatable gazebo €250, after much though decided not to buy, will try to add photo. ( maybe I did on another post) .
I knew we had a 2.5m x 2.5m pop up gazebo, but as smaller than average I couldn’t get side panels.
Googled and a Littlewoods Ireland had that size, panels bought separate (3, one has window) and green ones only cost €27, half price, theyhaveinpink too, butbit more expensive.
I know Malcolm had said with inflable more flexible when windy, but in end I couldn’t justify buying it as it won’t be away as often in out MH as most others.
Take a look at next Thurs Aldi there is a large inflatable style tent for €139.

I don’t know why last photo was by 3 but this was the one on display outside Decathlon Perigeaux in France. The graffiti is by the store so no one will steal.

Apologies for digging up an old thread here. Planning what I need for next year and I would like to get a driveaway inflatable awing for my camper. I have a 2006 Benimar Sport 690. Can anyone recommend something?

I have a Movelite T4 from Outdoor Revolution, its a great bit of kit but you need to know you are going to use it before you bring it with you as they are bulky to carry around

I have used my Airhub Hex (not the more expensive Hexaway) quite a bit with the Motorhome and as a stand alone tent or shelter at other times. So I get more use out of than just as an awning with the Motorhome.
