Hello craicers!
Here looking out at the rain and despairing at European weather forecast.
Due to sail to Cherbourg on Sunday. Wondering if any members are in transit or parked up in either France or Med coast of Spain. What are weather conditions like?
We have flexi ticket so could postpone journey if needed.

We're thinking of going too.
Flexi booked, tempted to bring if forward.
Planning south of Barcelona, near Salou on the coast.
Health holding me up at the moment, but looking OK in a week or so.
Our ticket is booked early April, but it is a flexi.

If it was me going on Sunday I would change it as the sea crossing is rough, increasing very rough to high later Sunday. Very uncomfortable.

A big thank you for all the replies! We decided to defer sailing till next Friday 10th. Didn't fancy driving into bad weather in France. Not to talk at all of the sailing !
I guess it will be a case of driving through France as quickly as possible.
Craic sticker displayed ! And we hope to see others!

I just had a look at the weather on a site I follow all the time ( XC weather.co.uk ) always very accurate, I looked for Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, United Kingdom , its showing Gale force 7 Gusting force 9 ( 32 to 47 mph ) for 1800 hrs next Saturday 10th March and for Gurnsey Channel Islands, United Kingdom building up to 9/10 ( 40 to 55 mph ) Friday 1500 hrs 11 th March.
Sorry but that's not going to be a pleasant crossing

Denboyne- I know you are spoilt for choice when it comes to stopping places but can recommend the campsite in Les Peupliers in Couhe, about 25 mins South from Poitiers on the N10. Probably a busy one in season but virtually empty at this time , all the usual things there inc wifi, washer driers, parking by river but best of all in this weather a heated toilet/shower block- oh and you can watch the almost tame Coypu's forage a few feet from the river parking spots.

Update on France/Spain trip

 ·
Posted: 18.03.2017  ·  #17
We finally departed on Friday, March 10th. Sailing was very smooth.
Arrived in Cherbourg at 4.30pm and headed straight to Aire in St. Brice En Cogles. About 2 hours drive. Lovely free aire with marked out bays, and toilets.
Following day drove to free aire in Uzerche, south of Limoges. Picturesque village.
On Monday we drove to within 20 miles of Spanish border. Difficult to find a place to park. Aires full with motherhomers returning from the South. Eventually parked in a small aire in St.Andre.
Tuesday morning dawned bright and sunny. This was more like It!
Crossed the border at 8.30 am. Decided to go to nearest site as weather was so nice. Les Medes in l'Estartit is open all year . So we parked up and have been here since. Wall to wall sunshine every day.....so far !

Petie, thanks for you good wishes.
We usually avoid toll roads but on this occasion because of weather etc we decided to take a chance!
Motorway from Uzerche to Exit 54 is toll free.
Had planned to exit there but stayed on motorway till Exit 59. (Just to check the cost - €24.)
Rejoined at J 60- (toll free around Mountauben) and stayed on till Toulouse (€8.50) then free around city.
On A61 from Toulouse exited at J 20 (€5.50).
From here we stayed on RN roads. Busy and slow at times but not pressurised.
We find travelling long distances at weekends best. Less traffic and no HGVS on French roads from late Sat.and Sundays.
Hope this helps.
