Changing drivers seat???

Hi folks,

Myself and herself bought a 6 berth last year. Its a 98 Fiat Ducato but I'm finding the drivers seat is playing havoc with my bad back. We are going to France for a month in June with the kids and obviously all that driving is going to cripple me and its mainly a surfing holiday so I don't want to be laid up.

I'm just wondering how big a job it is to change the drivers seat if it can be done or do any of you more experienced campers have any other solutions.

Thanks in advance

Pauric

Hi Pauric welcome.
You don't say on your profile where you are based so its a pit more difficult to direct you to where you might get it sorted , ie where to get new seat or replacement and someone to do it.

In any case if changing like for like there should be no problem any good Spanner Man could do it , probably 4/6 bolts and some wiring plug in connectors.

let us know where you are and someone will no doubt put you in the picture.

Hi Pauric
Are you looking a new version of the same seat or something totally different. I fitted a rotating plate to my passenger seat and I think it was just 4 bolts.

Pauric., Is your seat simply worn out with age,i.e.packing and cushion collapsing? Then a trip to a good van breakers will get a more up to date model .From memory 4 star headed bolts is all that holds them on and up to 2006 are all the same.I dont know about the new model. My brother did not like his Vauxhall seats so he adapted a nice pair of Mazda front seats and was well pleased with the result. If yours is a medical problem you can get specialist replacements .A good coachbuilder would know of a supplier, but when you see the price have a glass of water handy. Just a P.S. the arms are just bolted on to a standard seat.

Thanks folks, sorry I should have said I'm based in Sligo.

I'm really looking for a seat with more support. The one that is in it is rock hard and really straight. I intend going to a few breakers locally to see what they might have but I thought the brain trust here might have come up with other solutions in the past :-)

Thanks

Pauric

vw sharon, ford galaxy, type of seats will fit the < 06 ducato with a little bit of engineering, some of the higher spec cars have the armrests and swivel plates fitted as standard,go to a breakers yard and try sitting in a few to check the comfort level first.

Mr P ,Thats why I asked if your problem was medical because after many years in Furniture Removals and old trucks, not with the air suspension seats they have now, I know what it is like and offer you my sympathy Would a rally type be what you want. I looked in Gumtree tonight under rally bucket seats and there was 3 in the North so this might a line to follow also ebay could be worth a look. I get things such as parts sent to Northern Ireland, makes it cheaper and easier.

Thanks for the replies folks. Have been trying to get something from breakers but they aren't the easiest to talk to on the phone. I have a garage man who can get whatever I want but does anyone know what year sharan or galaxy seat will fit the ducato.

Thanks again

Pauric

Mate of mine built his own camper and put in a pair of seats from a big Saab he said it was a easy fit very, they look like two big leather armchairs and looking on e-bay don't seem to fetch a lot of money.

East coast campers have some Crafter drivers seats the type with one armrest. I am not sure if the have them on a website , but I'm sure he might send you a photo.
Stop the first guy you see with a 2006/10 ,VW Crafter and ask can you try out his seat.

The seats I used came from a 02/03 model galaxy with the swivel plates and one arm rest on each.

I have 2x Galaxy seats from 03 model, traded car in and it's for the breakers..... both with armrests and both swivel bases. Grey in colour, clean and no marks or rips. They're free if you want them as it will be good to see them being used. Collect Donegal, near Ballybofey.
