It's absolutely awful. Such senseless loss of life.

I spent a summer in Nice when I was in university. Even though it was a *few* years ago now, I still recognise the promenade and some areas that are being shown on the news. Makes it feel a bit more 'real' for want of a better word.

Heartbreaking.

James daughter and family live near the boulevard des anglais. They've not left the house today. The whole area is cordoned off. Nice also had loss of life last winter with devastating floods.

It is a terrible tragedy and a heinous crime. I was very conscious of the possibility of trouble when we attended the festival here in Vannes on the night of the 13th. I always avoid the most crowded locations and have an escape route planned (45 years of troubles in N.ireland).

The curious thing is we cycled round the town yesterday and have been in Vannes most of today and there is no indication of anything having happened. The headlines on the newspaper bill boards are full of Froomes run up Ventoux. Not a mention of it anywhere. We only discovered the murders when I turned on the I pad at 5ish to see how Le Tour was progressing.

Words cannot describe what some of those people who survived that terrible crime must be coming through, also the relatives of the dead who are left to ask why one individual idiot could cause so much hurt and suffering.
If there is any justice then at least he got his brains blew out, but that was probably to quick of an end for him, justice in my mind would have been much slower and more painful.
