This info was sent in to us via Facebook.

Waterways Ireland has gone on site at Castle Harbour in Portumna, Co Galway with a programme of works to expand the recreational and tourism capacity of the harbour area.

The programme involves improvements to the harbour, service block and car park and is funded by Fáilte Ireland under the Lough Derg Stimulus Fund.

The project is a partnership between Galway County Council and Waterways Ireland who each own different parts of the site.

Nice to see Co. Galway looking proactively at tourism. I bet cllr. Pearse Flannery could be at the helm as he is the motorhomes friend.

Just to say we stayed there one night for the first time, and got talking to one of the regular campers.
We were told that as part of the redevelopment that there would be approx 18 spaces for campers.
There were approx 25 the night we stayed and that was september
Seemingly campers park down along the entrance road during the summer and there could be 60+ campers at weekends.
I would worry that as part of the redevelopment that there could be a significant reduction of space for campers going forward

Well every time we stay there we try to leave a few Euro in the village. Visited the workhouse and found the staff there exceptionally friendly.

Great to see such a positive approach to motorhomes and if a modest charge is necessary to help avoid a repeat of Howth I would certainly have no objection to to it. Preferable to a hight barrier/ban any time.

I'd say people would be happy to pay a few quid  and as you say the friendly smile goes a long way

Up date

This is a sigh on way down to the marina
Temporary measure
Noticed 2 Motorhome parked outside Garda barracks and none parked in the workhouse car park as advised on Galway bay fm, but no signs to tell a person that parking was available in workhouse yard
