Ongoing issues with MHC server

 ·
Posted: 27.07.2016  ·  #1
We are experiencing ongoing issues with Motorhomecraics Database and server over the last week or so. Hardware has been replaced and we are trying to ride it out without moving servers.

Moving servers requires new DNS and can mean the website will be down for 5 minutes for some people and 72 hours for others whilst your ISP catches the new DNS. In the past some in ROI have waited even longer.

Please bear with us whilst we decide on the best way forward.

Note:
All information is backed up from midnight the previous day, so we should not lose any data from MHC despite the ongoing problems.

Seriously? I wish I had of known that for the last 25 + years working with servers. Perhaps better with Unix though, which has been the standard for servers for a long long time, what do you think?

Think you are winding us up ally ... looks to me like you are running apache on linux ... a typical LAMP(Linux,Apache,MySQL,PHP) stack.

This is from the guy who wanted to convert said attic into a man cave before he took over the man cave in the garden! In fact you are supposed to check the attic weekly - fat chance!

There is no need to check the attic ... I can do it remotely via ssh...
Look at the uptime on my attic pi (aka our TV system):

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ uptime
22:43:53 up 88 days, 23:20, 3 users, load average: 0.10, 0.04, 0.05

As most of you are aware ............... :'(

The server went tits up again this morning. We are now looking into migrating to a new server but will keep you all posted on progress.

Apologies for the downtime.

Update:

More hardware has been changed on the server and we are hoping that a migration to a new one will not be required. Currently being tested, but so far so good.

Had bad experiences with Ubuntu lately. I posted about it on MHC somewhere, wouldn't use it again. I started of on Debian (without GUI) and Ubuntu is built on Debian so thought it would be good. :'(

Was it the ubuntu server distro you were using, out of all the distros i have used mint/ light/lubuntu are my favorite ones & i cant be bothered distro hoping these days so im sticking to light as it does what i require.
Im not hot on computers but a mate who works with gov servers put me onto linux about 6/7 years back as i had nothing but trouble with win xp,now i have no bother at all and find linux easy to use.

if you are are going to start talking dirty to us in a foreign language,i will report you to the authoritys,
but if you are just trying to fix the "server",ubuntu,or whatever that is,we trust you!
i dont understand a word of it but you do not need to apologise.
Now on a more basic level and completely off on a tangent,if you could come up with an explanation as to why my neighbour has just taken away the blue bin that i put out an hour ago--,i might be more lenient.
I think he may have lost the plot, but wait, here he comes back with his own black bin,!!
the plot thickens.
neighbours -i ask you!!!
i'm going to hide!
its not easy.

Was using a Ubuntu Distro, not server. I have never (touches wood) had any emails hacked, accounts hacked, ever and I have been on the internet since day one.

As soon as I started using Ubuntu I got all those, I was closing stuff down left right and centre, email was found on a hackers site for sale along with password. Passwords all changed, Ubuntu deleted and no longer any problems. I had a search on the internet for the problem and it seems a few were experiencing the same thing.

Ubuntu has came a long way but i dont like the new unity layout so mint or light for me there should be no security issues as linux is more secure than windows plus no tracking your web searches if you sue a tor web browser.
