Soarview box

Hi craicers,
I ordered a Soarview box from amazon, getting ready for the big Ireland tour in the summer. seller was PREMIERE. £34. OK, it arrived and it had an electric plug attached which I thought, no good for wild camping.
Also on closer inspection the item was obviously second hand, scraped, dented back plate and a hole/crack on the display screen. Came in a new box with a new remote control box, so whoever packed this was taking the piss! Return/refund demanded, won't use Premier again!
Anyway my post is simply asking, what Soarview box do I need for the van, just connect to the TV & work off the battery. I have a free view Tv & want to have the option of watching it in Ireland while on tour.

Hi Flans van - i use a saorview box in the van as the flatscreen tv that came with it was not saorview enabled - normally saorview boxes are 240v so i use an inverter working off the 2 leisure batteries ( my solar panel keeps things topped up) all works very well indeed ! the shop i bought it from is here

If you didn't want to use an inverter I am sure it is possible to buy a low voltage one, say 9volt and use a ciggarette lighter type power.

There is one that only uses 2volt of power: HERE

In fact there is a 12volt one HERE

One of the benefits of buying an Argos branded TV i.e. Bush is that Freeview and Saorview are both built in (to avoid having to build different models for UK and ROI markets). I discovered this recently when I didn't have a Soarview box and all the channels appeared! It isn't 12v though...

To be able to view saorview from a transmitter in southern Ireland your TV must have a M-peg 4 tuner " they use M-peg 2 audio and M-peg 4 video. The UK use M-peg 2 for video and audio and T2 for high definition

Sometimes I get a picture jack.....but no sound (when the dragon is in a mood)

The bush tv from Argos has a good viewing angle of something like 165 or 175 degrees so ideal in a MH where everybody isn't sitting directly in front to get a clear picture,

Our one has a built in dvd for the kids cartoons incase we have no signal, it's been a life saver a few times and I think the tv was only €15 or €20 more with the dvd built in,

I don't think our one had free view (3 yrs old now) but I'm not bothered, So it's a winner in my book,

The two TVs I have in the van both get Soarview, one I knew from the start, the other I only found out at new year when I tried and it worked! Both are 12v with DVDs built in

Could someone tell me what this Soarview box is? I've got a Sky box but don't pay anything for what i get. Would this box get me more things?

If you have a satellite dish on your van you don't really need a soarview box Jack.

If you have a real Sky TV box and don't pay anything you are getting the Freesat from Sky channels.
If it is a freesat receiver (not sky branded) you are probably getting freesat or free to air satellite channels.

Unless you want RTE and other irish channels which you most likely are not getting via satellite you don't need soarview.

Unfortunately we don't have a Saorview box on its own but we do have TV/DVD Combi's which are Saorview and Freeview Approved.

The TV's are all 12V so will run off Battery no problem at all.

Sorry can't be of more help. :-) :-) :-)

And it died shortly after the 12 month guarantee expired (made by Vestel) so if you are considering buying an Argos branded TV, make sure you go for the extended guarantee. I have a replacement Linsar on order (also made by Vestel) but with a 5 year guarantee. Will not operate on 12v but we are rarely off grid.
