Motorhome Ins/Breakdown N.Ireland

HI Guys & Girls

Just looking into possibly getting a Swift Bessacarr 599 and completely new to it all so looking advice/tips into where to go for Ins and Breakdown cover. We are living in N.I but intend to disappear into Europe for months at a time touring about so not sure how different companies work and what different types of cover is available.

Its a 3500kg moho and I'm presuming just a C1 licence needed?

I think by looking about the forums that some companies only cover for 90 days away? also there are some companies that only provide breakdown for vans up to 3500kg

Any help and advice would be appreciated

Many thanks

I can't help you with trips over 90 days duration as that is the most I can remember seeing. I am not sure what length your van is but a lot only cover up to 7 meters in length.

We have been with LV who offer cover for over 3500KG and over 7meters. Maybe the have an option for longer periods too.

I am sure other members may be able to suggest options that provide cover for more than 90 days.

We use the Kerr Group, Ballynahinch. Slightly more expensive but the insurance is from Aviva through Victor Millwell who specialise in Motor Caravans. It has the option of UK and European breakdown cover with no apparent time limit. Last year breakdown was provide by RAC but this year it is DAS. I'm still trying to clarify the full details of cover.

You could try Stuart Insurances Ltd in Dublin the provide motorhome cover with Aviva for customers North & South 003532881779
or
Dolmen Insurance www.dolmen-insurance.ie or 0035318672121 . They arrange cover with AXA no limit on how long you are away with both companys.
They quote in sterling and euro's

Just to point out my post above was in realtion to separate European breakdown cover. Not normal motor insurance.

Another point to remember is that the breakdown cover with Dolmen, not sure about Stuart’s, while covering you in Europe does not have enough cover to repatriate you, additional cover may be required. The cover from LV May be able to be extended, a phone call or email could get you an answer.

As for insurance in general, some on here have used Adrian Flux as well as Caulfield Insurance.

Finally for the licence, up to 3500kg is standard car licence, over that and you need C1
