Just in case you hear of 2 people found frozen to death: around 5th February the (house) heating gas broke down. Took 5days to get it fixed over which we have a real cold snap. Kept warm with electric heaters.
This morning put on the gas and realised several hours later that it was not working. No call out possible until Tuesday/Wednesday next.
Why am I been picked on in two of the coldest spells we had had.🤧

Time to power up the camper. A smaller area will be easier to keep warm and comfortable.

If its a condensing boiler go to the little pipe that goes outside and see if its frozen over , pour some boiling water over the end of the pipe. shove something into it to make sure its clear.
If you turn the tempt down on the boiler its self say 40 deg and then keep it running 24 hours get the house good and worm first , crank it up every so often if needed .
the cost wont be that much extra.

Tks folk for comments
Sprinter to follow up I did in fact manage to get to the pipe and put a long thin bar into it, so it is not frozen.
I think I am back to awaiting the RGI man in due course.
We are quite warm as we have confined ourselves to a small room where we can look out as the snowfalls..
Hmmm , a bit early to hit the wine, perhaps? Keep yourselves warm.

Make a "Onesy" out of an electric blanket, saves a fortune on heating, just heat yourself instead of the house :)

I want to go there, who flys there?🌨☃

This morning my son's boiler would not start up. I suggested the hot water on the pipe from the condenser, usually a white PVC one about 1" diameter
But there is none, so not a condenser boiler.
Next, he got the hairdryer and warmed up the combustion chamber, after taking off the front cover, the boiler cover he did not interfere with the boiler itself (illegal). After a while he got the boiler to start.

It appears the flue going through the wall got blocked by blowing snow, which melted from the heat generated by the hair dryer.

Had a call yesterday from a tenant of a house I rent. Told me that the boiler had stopped and would not start. I contacted my usual plumber and he told me it could be lots of things but one think I had never heard of was ice in the feed pipe from the oil tank. He said that even a small amount of water can block the pipe when it freezes. I suppose it makes sense

Like Baguette above, I am sure now my boiler not a condenser type either. I must try the hairdryer, but I suspect at this stage that I have a bigger problem. Keeping nice and warm with electric.
Just wonder with so many people with power cuts, they have no heating or cooking facilities, (unless gas cooker)?

Hairdryer did not resolve my boiler problem. Must await Bord Gais next week. Keeping warm. Running out of wine, total disaster. Will swop milk for wine.

Ring your local Polish shop. Those boys are not shut and are doing home deliveries. They are laughing at us under house arrest.

We have oil heating and discovered the oil was running low. Ordered more but they can't deliver until Tuesday. Went to the local petrol station and filled 2 x 5 gallon drums. Spilt most of it down my sleeves and fleece front trying to get it in the tank, but heating is blasting and the vodka is flowing so should last until Tuesday.

footnote: When I came back last weekend I still had 1 bag of ice left in the van. As there was no room left in the freezer I sat it outside on the window cill to melt so I could throw the bag in the bin. The ice hasn't melted since last Sunday so using it in my Vodka tonight.

If you run out of home heating oil just double the vodka and it should do the same job Paul😊

I used to that as well Paul, then I invested in one of those siphon hoses and now I don’t spill a drop (heating oil that is!)

Wel, to end my saga (hopefully) Bord Gais arrived this am -yes Sunday- and we discovered I needed a new PCB board. Heating is now back. Cost me almost €800 since February. Bottom line is I need a NEW boiler, but in order to get immediate heat, no option but to pay for immediate repair. Still, great service, but sore on the pocket🤕.
