This stuff works.

These two nuts were very rusty. 10 hrs later, spotless.

Get yourself some hydrocloric acid that they use to wash cement lorries etc . It will dissolve iron oxide. I used to use it a lot on classic cars

Will they flash rust when you take them out?
Just be careful using acid on fasteners, you can get hydrogen embrittlement which makes them well, brittle.

Yep, flash rust appears almost instantly.

I had the same result with the acid etch kit that was supplied with my zinc plating kit. Gotta be quick moving from acid to a distilled water rinse.

Hydrogen embrittlement... Yep, my biggest "concern" since I started etching and plating car parts. In fairness to the supplier of the kit, they went into detail about this subject. I've been "baking out" any critical parts (fasteners etc) after plating. The rule of thumb - baking at 175c for over 3hrs directly after plating.

I hope I'm doing it right!

Any advice will be warmly accepted!!
