Fitting coolant valve.. Help needed!

Howdy!

I've spent the last two hours (don't laugh...!) trying to fit this: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/BIRTH-…2749.l2649

into the van after the last one broke.

The ONLY problem is... the four bolts it attaches to, are not fixed in place, they drop into their slots from the top and are slid up into their slots from the bottom... meaning you can't place all four in - and have to figure a way to slot two in after getting the piece mostly in place. Added to this - is the tight dark space... (And i've already lost a couple of pieces down behind the mat from dropping them)..

I figured it was time to call in the big guns and see if anyone could suggest a way I haven't tried! (because otherwise there's a tube of epoxy in the back that's going to get used!!!!!) Thanks in advance!

Hi Killy an old trick working in places you cant see was to put a little spot of superglue on your fore finger and attach the bolt that way you can sort of thread the bolt in , Hope it helps

Pop the bolts into their holes with the piece face down. Get some strips of masking tape and place across the bolt heads and the plastic housing. When you turn it upside down, the bolts shouldn't fall out. The masking tape punctures easily for a screwdriver/ allen key/spanner etc. When you're finished the masking tape is easy to remove.

Cheers lads, it's the main thing I need to do.. (besides tightening the clutch) before we can venture out... and i didn't expect this to be the part I fell down on!!

I've a roll of masking tape and some glue.. I'll go out and give them a bash now!! Cheers, I'll be back with info :)

Bluetac works well as long as you wipe the surface clean. make sure its warm when you use it, it sticks better.

@ Malcolm - Consider yourself lucky you live far enough away from me... Cause the tape worked, and I was so happy I could've kissed you!!! tape worked - bundling it into the gaps and then a bit at the botton! bitta grub and I'm heading back out now in a few to re-attach the pipes and the cable...

Crossed my fingers and toes the o-rings stayed in place and it's watertight & Functional when I'm done!

It's one of the tricks to a trade. Another tip, to stop o-rings from moving during fitting, smear some grease onto them and they will stick.

Instead of using grease on the o-rings to keep them in place, apply some Vaseline or petroleum jelly.

Sorry, I can find the grease quickier than the Vaseline etc. Which is in my shed! !!!!!!

Finally got a chance last week to finish this, refill and test - and delighted to report that it seems to have been a success! :) delighted - got around to fixing my front right headlamp (which had a loose connection) and tighten up my clutch! Will hopefully get a good run down to Kerry in two weeks for a night or two and can't bloody wait!
