I was just wondering how much planning you do before a trip. We used to plan down to the smallest detail but as the years have rolled by we tend to wing it. A few times we have got off the boat at Cherbourg with the intention of going somewhere but ended up somewhere totally different. We once went with the idea of going to Barcelona and surrounding area and ended up in Garda. Another time we stopped in Portugal at Villa Nova De Cacela as an overnight stop and stayed 30 days. Sometimes in high season we have had to try a few campsites but that is just part of the whole adventure. Now with all the Aires it is a bit easier

We plan on not missing the boat to Cherbourg ! ...... the rest seems to fall into place !
Leaving tomorrow with a vague idea of ending up somewhere in Spain...... with no fixed agenda.
Will do a bit of a blog on here ..

We always work out a route but a lot of times it changes. That is the beauty of motorhoming...your route can change so easily depending on weather etc.

We tend to do the same thing, we just try to have a rough idea on where we can find a spot to service the van every 2/3 nights and after that we kind of eye ball it.

We love to just drive around and find that hidden spot to wild camp. It's the best feeling ever not to have a fixed schedule, I have 40hs a week of that shite already!!

Sorry to hear that you are stormbound but Happy New Year , I have had a look ,they are forecasting 25 to 30 mph winds for the 9/10 . lets hope you get a favourable crossing. Are you booking in to a big hotel down there with all the goodies to spoil yourself for a week or coming back up to join us cold and wet locals ?

Sorry to hear of your troubles. If I had spotted it earlier you could have parked at mine and either stayed insitu , or I’d have given you a car to head back up. I’m away but it could have been organized. If you are caught out on the 9 th let me know. I’m back the 8th. Hope it don’t mess with you’re time off too much

I try to have a plan but with several options. Last week I intended to stay in a campsite between Fuengirola and Marbella stopped outside didn't like what I saw so went to the cheaper one in the Acsi book preferred it and stayed there instead. Set off from there intending to stay at an aire in Castellar de la frontera for a couple of nights but decided to only stay one when two uk bans decided with all the available space they would park next to me, the closed one drove into the bay foward where as everyone else reversed in making us Hab door to Hab door 3 foot apart, he had an empty 6m space next him but must have liked my aftershave, noting he had a hearing aid and the first thing he did was put up his sat dish I thought this could make for a noisy night so I moved into the empty side of the aire the other side of the road. Set off for Tarifa to check the 2 chargeable Aires neither appealed now at zahara de Los atunes beach side wilding have stayed here a few times it's great today 20 degrees full sun a no wind. Barbate next maybe!?!

Yeah, what's up with the pile up? When I'm stopping anywhere, I always go for the most empty furthest away from anyone I can find. Next thing you know, the new guy arrives and parks right next to you... I mean WHY?!?

I've moved a few times already to regain my peace. Even if you're the soundest lad in the planet, I still don't want to see anything but your face out of my window and I don't want to have to draw the blinds in the middle of the day.

OK if it's a busy spot, but there's absolutely no need when there's a lot of room around.

[/End of rant]

Nice old spot down there Mr Strand, plenty of tuna and fish resturants and has come on a lot from the old days of hippies and wind surfers. Did you know you are near Cape Trafalgar where the square in London is called after. Nelsons stomping ground and where the guy from the Brinks gold robbery in Heathrow hid out for years before being spotted. Hope you enjoy it

Well, at Rosslare lads.
Lashed the rain from Dublin southwards.
Bit gusty here now and still pouring down.
Make some tea in next hour, board, get dogs sorted and maybe visit bar for “travel medications” !.....
Mrs called in to pharmacy at SuperValu at the port and got some motion sicknesss pills as she gets sick easily..... hopefully won’t be to rock and roll.

Will open another thread on the trip.

Thanks everyone for the tips so far, will post a few more questions on the new thread.

A couple of brandy and ports into herself and the motion sickness will be cured.

I don’t travel well but I have been lucky on most ferry journeys. How well will dogs travel? In kennel or in your Mh? Do you give them any medication. Our dog gets car /Mh sick if bumpy twisty roads, she hasn't been on ferry, we are wondering about our next trip to France. We stayed in Ireland last year.

First time with 2 dogs, or oldest JR loves travel, never sick and travelled in MH on the Stena horizon and on kennels on the Oscar Wilde.
Now have a younger JR, she doesn’t travel as well, not sick but off her food..... but she is as mad as a brush and should be OK.....
Both dogs in kennels this trip so we shall see how they get on...... not keen on the Stena horizon onboard kennels but we will give it a try.

Now dry and pretty calm here in Rosslare, just waiting on the boarding to commence.
