It would really be useful for getting the even weight distribution , better handling .

Do we really want to know exactly what our MH's weigh? I have a full C license so it is not an issue for me. Most MH's of the 3500kg variety are running close to their max permitted weight all the time. When you add 60lt of diesel (51kg) 100 lt water (100kg), 2 bottles of propane (50kg), the overweight driver (110kg) the wife (55kg) and the dog (8kg) not to mention pots, pans, tools and all the rest of the must haves. Mine weighs 2880kg ex works which doesn't leave a lot of payload.

I'm getting mine tested shortly, I'll get it weighed in "all up" configuration out of curiosity. If you are suspected of being overweight there is a very specific distance you can be brought to an approved weighbridge to be weighed.

RTA 1961 Section 16(1)(b)
forthwith to bring the vehicle or combination with the load or loads (if any) thereon to any appointed weighbridge named by the officer and not more than five miles distant by the shortest available route from the place at which the requisition is made;

So you have to be stopped within 5 miles (8km) from an authorised weighbridge that's open.

Eamon,There have been quite a few moons over Brae Head since my old lady weighed only the half of mine. But anyway it used to be when they put you over the roadside scales in the UK and France they let you drain out the water tanks, if you were a little over .It was good practice to keep a bottle of the water of life in the cupboard to help diplomatic relations in France and Spain

I didn't check prices Colin but be aware there are two different capacity ones available at different prices also I have no notion buying one at the moment, but would imagine one would be a good buy for a Club etc. if they were accurate.

Recently I was at a meeting about the rules and regulations governing Agricultural tractors and trailers on Public roads at Cahir mart which was presented by the Garda and rsa, there the Guards had a mobile weigh bridge that the vehicles had only to roll over to be weighed and it was all housed in a small car trailer, so you don't need to be near a weigh bridge to get weighed
anymore.
Another interesting non Motorhome related idiotic rule I learned there is that if you have a driver with a provisional licence driving a tractor with a passenger seat fitted, he must have a qualified driver with him but if there is no passenger seat in the tractor he can legally drive on his own

It is very important to know what weight you are running at for a couple of reasons. Firstly there is the safety aspect. If you are overloaded it could alter handling, braking etc. There is probably a margin built in to the overall weight so in theory you could run over but rules are rules. Secondly if stopped and weighed although I have never heard of anyone being stopped. I used to use the weighbridge at Larne before getting onto the Ferry. I always kept the proof of the weight just in case.
