Have said on here plenty of times, I think it is a waste of time collecting clubcard points as the shopping was that much more expensive in Tesco I think you would be better going somewhere else in the long run. That seems to be changing now and Tesco fighting back, but that's a different story.

I am in the fortunate position of being able to collect clubcard points through filling my work van with diesel, I do 250 to 330 miles a day so they are adding up!

I have never used them before, so what do I need to do to use them for a ferry crossing? do I use 'in shop' offfers they are sending out or ignore them? do I need to reserve my points? can I lose them?

You never had them before so won't miss letting them build up and use them against a ferry. Nice cheap break in the Sun cant do any harm. 😊

Remember to check out any discount codes first Ally. If I remember correctly you can only use Tesco club card points against full price ferries (with Irish ferries).
I would imagine you may need plenty of points to cover the 10% discount with a code. I have never used points and I am sure someone who has will confirm if this is correct.

We have signed up to their Christmas club, so all points are amalgamated throughout the year and we get sent one batch of vouchers in November. The expiry date is some time in late 2018.

Each €1 voucher equals €4 when booking with Irish Ferries , so €50 in vouchers will get you €200 off the ferry cost.

When you are booking with IF you must indicate that you are using Tesco vouchers before reserving sailings etc. The cost of the sailing when you do this will be indicated at about €40 dearer than a regular booking.

AFAIK you can pay for the full cost of the sailing with the vouchers - we generally manage to cover half of the cost.

The sterling ones are only 3 times.
Stena & P&O restrict payment to £100 ish per single trip.
You can pay your full trip with Irish Ferries & Eurotunnel.

Down here you use 20 to buy 80 in vouchers,, the vouchers last for a couple of years so you can accumulate easily enough! Works IF or stena I think but don't quote me on that!!

I collect points (but don't have that many as I shop about at all the supermarkets but do use Tesco for fuel and have their credit card ) the expiry is on the vouchers if you check your account and I think are valid for 2 years. Only used them once on the Liverpool -Dublin with P&O but they do have different price for use with tokens so not bothered since. Most I know use them for the Tunnel as that seems the best option but I have never used the tunnel. Should imagine this is no help at all as most of your questions have already been answered :( :(

Thats a horrid route going through the uk , We have done Dublin to holyhead and then Dover to Calais twice. I would only do it again as a last resort. Irish ferries rosslare? Dublin to Roscoff/Cherbourg
you get a cabin and a good nights sleep , up the next morning, fed and fresh for the day ahead.

If you are going in the summer ,it is one hell of a lot cheaper then the direct route from Rosslare to France

SWMBO wouldn't get on the ferry from Rosslare, far to long a crossing.

My missus used to be of the same opinion, but ok about it now. We generally head to bar for a few, something to eat then, if it’s rough we head to cabin, watch tv or read. After the food and few beers we are usually asleep pretty early. Up in the morning, shower, breakfast, stroll on deck. Then we are docking and off we go.
We usually head for roscoff. Much calmer roads till you get back in the swing of things.
Then we are very nearr to ferry. That helps.
How long is the drive from Scotland to tunnel

Tried it in 2010, Belfast - Liverpool Ferry heading to Glastonbury festival. SWMBO was too worried to drink alcohol, sat awake all night in fear, kept me awake and the general mood was not great O-) Festival that year was ruined as all she could think about was the return journey from Liverpool - Belfast.

Some people just don't like boats.

Scotland to tunnel, roughly 10/11 hours, I have done Scotland to Glastonbury and other places dozens and dozens of times.

True. Nothing as bad as being seasick. Herself finds the few drinks takes her mind off it. Having said that she isn’t a big fan of the ferries either, but she keeps coming with me anyway🤔

Last time I expected to be sea sick I took Stugeron 15mg travel sick pills (says Cinnarizine) . Slept well. I take to cabin for the whole journey...I sympathise with Julie.....we have been fortunate for last few trips. Only go for meal if flat calm. On one trip had TV in cabin, it was 3* 2berth, costs €20 more but at time of booking no 2* available.

As topic was on Tesco Clubcard....I can just about collect €19 worth of vouchers for the year, (even less now as I shop in Aldi & Lidl which are now even closer than a Tesco. I use my vouchers to buy Woman’s Way magazine, 51 issues in the year and posted to me....there are other magazines. So what does anyone else use their Tesco clubcard vouchers if noept worth saving for ferry.

Is the clubcard in Uk x3 and not x4 because sterling conversion rate and IF is in euro?

My folks have used it to pay the energy bills with bord Gais, when there was 4/5 on the food bill + Tesco visa usage it was returning enough to pay most of the electric bill!

We'll (hopefully) use it for a ferry trip!

Does the Tesco voucher cover a landbridge crossing as they are available through both Stena and Irish Ferries sites, or look at some towards Stena and some towards Tunnel if booked separately.

Well after 6 months of building points and checking on Tesco Clubcard website, what a load of old **** that is! Maybe if you done a million miles a year it might work out to be beneficial.

When we first got a Tesco VISA card we always had enough points to get a free trip Rosslare to Cherbourg and pay most of a second trip. Things have changed but we still use them as it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick
