I've seen this a lot in Germany. Bringing your pooch along with you for evening meal seems to be accepted in many of the restaurants I've been in. Its pretty weird AND a bit annoying tho, especially if two pooches across the room don't get along...

Would I be in favour of it here? Yes. I'd love to have our two golden retrievers sitting by my side in a restaurant!

Pier36 in Donaghadee, and many other pubs, would simply not have enough customers if they didn't let those with their dogs in. Although they are seperated from the restaurant.

Dog lover all the way but I'll also think twice about bringing a dog inside... it's not the dogs that I'm worry about, it's the owners that won't give a flying f**k and let the dogs bark your ears out through the whole meal.... yes, I'm thinking about the little yappers that wont stop barking.

Plus, I've never seen a dog trained not to fart indoors and when the boys fire away, you have to leave the premises.

Outside, yeah... should be allowed and most shops won't mind.

Cheers,
Rami

I'd be wary asking for a doggy bag on the way home

Well, seems like it's now a fact. It is still up to the owner of the restaurant, but legally dogs can be inside.

I really hope the dog owners will take care of their 4 legged pooches.

Interesting debate on local radio on this issue today.
Some people very vocal on their opposition to the legalization regarding dogs in restaurants.
Should think most have never experienced or have first hand knowledge of our continental neighbours where dogs in restaurants are a common sight. Saying that we wouldn’t take our dogs into a restaurant as we view it as a time to relax and having to mind a dog(s) wouldn’t fit into that profile...... maybe just us, on the other hand we don’t object to well behaved dogs in a restaurant.

We are not dog owners but I would treat the issue of having a dog in a restaurant the same are having kids with you. If they sit reasonable quiet and don't hassle other costumers, I have no problem with either kids or dogs. The problem occurs when the dog owner is lazy and mutty has a crap because owner forgot to walk him beforehand.

I am a dog owner and lover, years ago my old Labrador would have been perfect to take in as nothing fazed it and it would lie at your feet for days on end, the current mutt would jump from table top to table top trying to lick everyone’s face so I can’t see me taking it out for a candle lit meal!

I'd be OK with dogs in a restaurant for afternoon lunch.

For evening meals, I think I'd prefer to have dog (and kid) free surroundings...
