We have just stayed our 60th night in the van and we are not finished yet.

We are running out of time as we don't usually get much use out of the van in the six weeks up to Christmas due to work getting busy.

Still don't think we are doing too bad.

How many nights do you do in the normal year?

This is our first year with a van and except for a couple of de bugging weekends so far we have just had the one trip - 48 hights touring Scotland, we are due to go away again end of this month for a week.

I really couldnt be bothered going away for week ends.

Next year our plans are for maybe a fortnight in Ireland at Easter (weather dependant!) and 7-8 weeks in England

I bet you can't wait Joy.

We have never really had any reason to take the motorhome to England although I would like to visit some of the historic locations sometime.

Any time we have traveled through the country we have encountered terrible traffic.

Must give it as go some summer.

We get away most weekends we're free. Spent 2 weeks travelling around Somerset and Cornwall 2 years ago and loved it.

We're planning a road trip to the South of Spain next Summer :D

We have our motorhome about 5 weeks and only been away over night for 1 weekend due to loads of other stuff happening at weekends! By spring we will hopefully be out on the road a lot more :)

We took 17 days driving up the west coast (starting at Troon) stayed three weeks on Orkney (comitments there) and started back down the east coast which south of Inverness is deadly dull but we stuck it out as far as Fife where we doubled back and "did" the highlands before returning via Stranraer.

The only bit I would not do again is the Nairn to Dundee down the east coast bit.

62 nights so far this year.
97 nights in 2010
113 nights in 2009
102 nghts in 2008
90 nights in 2007
We don't believe in the motorhome sitting in the driveway gathering moss.

I wouldnt bother. just talk about it and get a man in. You wouldnt want the other half to think you had any diy ability, it only leads to the next project.

As I still am in the unfortunate position of having to work I can only get away at weekends and when I can get holidays off work. It is now a standing order with family, friends etc that we are away every weekend and as winter approaches with dark nights etc the distance we will travel may reduce and from two nights we may do one, but we will go away (even day trips). Use it, its what its there for.

We are very similar in our use of the van except for the day trips. Grounded at the moment as"she who must be obeyed" is not too well. Hope to be on the road again in a few weeks and still have some holidays which have to be taken by the end of the year.

My year runs from the end of May, Scarva, as thats when I changed the van. In 2016/2017 I was away 150 nights. I have a feeling 2018 will be more. Looking at my journey app, I have only stayed on sites for 10 nights compared to 56 last year. This is mainly due to Touring in the Trees where I have stayed 79 nights since the first of January and should get a further 10 -15 nights there by the end of the year, making it £2.00 a night or less. I will get 31 nights from a 13 kg gas during the summer months with the hob, fridge and shower. During the colder months I average 20 nights with heating also.

When we bought our van last year, we d coded that we should aim to get out every second weekend, and we've mostly made it, the weeks when we haven't have been due to other stuff on. I think you need to make a decision to use it and do your best. Even if the weather isn't great, there's still a lot to be said for parking up with a good book and a cuppa!

When you purchase a camper/motorhome it can be difficult to reorganise your life to make time and effort to get away. We have found that after Halloween until the end of February we only get away for mostly only one night per month.
Other times we have been creative, this summer we brought the MH to a family wedding, parked about 200 metres down the road from the hotel. The mother of the bride was told that we were staying in "the white b&b".
On other times, I have brought the MH to work with a sick kid in it. If the kid was at home, all that they would want is the playstation on the sofa but that is easily organised in the MH.

If I count the whole year from January up until now, including weekends, weekdays and regardless of if it was wild camping or campsite...

I'll be in a grand total of 1 night :D

LOL

Yeah, I've only got the MH about a month ago, been doing some work to her and had visitors as well, so... looking to rack up a few more days in the next coming weeks.

My vans in for its annual Hat check so I've no access to the travelling diaries. But, we do a long trip each year, this year it was 107 nights, which got us to Tallinn in Estonia. We get away for anything between 2 and 4 nights weekly so between 140 and 150 so far from February. Like the previous contributor, the driveway is no place for our second home, and thankfully being retired allows us to indulge. Oh, and in three years we've been to 26 countries.
