Think the same guy with 2 Akitos was in Castlewellan some weeks ago. Got the same impression then. And we agree Glenariff was wet with lots of pine needles. (TITTs).

Great site. Room for 12 vans with great walks and Markethill is just across the main road. There was a lot of road noise first thing in the morning but the birds did their best to cover it.

Stayed one night in Gosford, must get back again.

What way did you go into it? I was following someone and they seemed to go a long way round. Accessible in MH from Markethill?

We had been running the Armagh 10k, so travelled out the Newry Rd to the main Gosford forest entrance. You need to drive into the main carpark, turn around and drive back out the exit road. Lane is immediately on the left and gate is about 50m. Apparently it was full on the Saturday night but only 2 on the Sunday night.

A very interesting topic for this newcomer!
We've been out in the new van a couple of nights now and are seriously considering TITTS. We've a primary school aged son and a very well behaved German Shepherd girl whose poo we take away with us and we love walking in forests. We'd also like to stay in them, away from the masses, so this scheme looks ideal.
The photos are a great help and I've noticed one or two with dogs - are dogs accepted in the overnight areas (we've no problem keeping ours on a long (10ft) lead and under control. Ally mentioned that the sites may not be great for kids - are there any issues we need to consider?
It does sound like great value for those of us who love forest sites!

We too have a young shepherd and love the touring in the trees. As you can see above the sites vary greatly and we have only been to about half of them so far. A number of the sites, Castlewellan, Rostrevor and Gosford are close to the official caravan sites and therefore benefit from more activities for kids. In other sites there is nothing but trees and lots of walks. Dogs are supposed to be kept on a lead within the site. We do tend to go outside peak times, so don't be fooled by the photos. The more popular sites will be busy and it is first come, first served, with a max stay of 72 hours if the site is full. That sod, it works for us. Totally recommended.

No problem with dogs at all, obviously the usual rules.

The reason I said maybe not great for kids, is because a lot of them would have nothing for the 'bog standard run of the mill kid' to do :) - no play parks (although some do), sometimes no phone signal, no data and maybe no TV, no shops usually and no other kids.

Sounds better with each post! Will spend the rest of the year researching lots of forests and then I think we'll go fot it for 2018. We've just spent quite a bit on the new van and we're still trying to sell the last one, so we're going to try as much wild overnighting as possible for the rest of this year.
As always, your advice and helpfulness is very much appreciated. Maybe we shall bump into some of you Craicers along the way!

I am currently at night 30 of TITTS this year so far, so working out at 6.00 per night. At this rate I expect to spend 60 nights which will bring it down to 3 quid per night.
Last year I spent over £400 on staying in Forest campsites alone (33 nights), so the TITTS is a great investment.

Nope, giving it a miss this year. For three years it was wet and got cancelled at least one year. Last year there were that many red flags I spent more time in the pub than watching racing, paid a small fortune to park the Motorhome.

I'll watch it on TV in my Motorhome parked somewhere quiet, drinking my own beer :)

Made it to Clonelly TITTS, or Kesh Forest on the sign. Brilliant site but absolutely no where to go. No forest paths, walks or trails. Nothing to do but relax and drink wine. It was a good stop over enroute to Donegal and our only company was the squad of forestry staff who arrived to cut the grass in the morning. It was the start of what turned out to be a great week touring the WAW in the North West.

Don't think so. The only forest sites that I hear about seem to be connected to the camping and caravanning club. Not sure if they are managed for the forestry in the same way as Delamont in co. Down.
