Your buying the v5
Twin cam maybe a couple of grand.
The little stamped number at the R/H rear wheel arch.... AVO !
If engine and chassis plate match.... worth mega money when rebuilt on a mint shell.
Bloody hell, I owned a mint Mexico mk1 in my time as well as a mint MK2 RS2000......... hell, I wish I had both now.

What made the Mexico special was Ford took a small number off the line in Dagenham and took them to their proving ground at an old WW2 airfield at Boreham out side Chelmsford where they stripped it down put it on a roll over and reinforced the whole underside and then rebuilt it with all sports grade shocks springs etc and a new inside. What a motor even today.

Can I give all you good people a thought to dwell on, We have had the reincarnation of the fiat 500 in several forms and selling well and the mini in its new guise doing similar, But what if the morris minor 1000 was brought back to life with a transverse modern engine as originally intended ,plus disc braking etc and a new interior, how would you think it could compete with the opposition,!

Oh, brings back the memories of my 92' Escort XR3 (my first car). Loved it do death and if I ever have enough money, I'll go back, find it and buy it back. Too many memories!!
Crazy money, but if restored properly you can probably make that back and then some.

Way back when I was just a lad and single bought a NEW escort 1600 sport in Bright Orange with the big and bold black decals and a special order of Dark Brown seating.
Would I love to go back and buy it back absolutely no doubt absolutely NOOOOOOOOOOOO
Had the car for two years and most of that time I drove the garage car. If I remember correctly I had 4 new diffs 6 new Prop shafts one new set of Alloys two new rear axles and after the two years of it going back to Ford (the dealer gave up on it after the normal 12 months warranty period) Ford admitted they had no idea what the hell was up with it and bought the car back off me with less than 6,000 miles on the clock
The car they "Loaned" from the dealer was however a peach a Saab 9000 turbo and on one real magic two days a Lotus Elan when the Saab was serviced.
Did it put me off Ford well no I had six Mondeos as company car and they were all great, infact my next door neighbour bought my last one off me 10 years ago (55 Reg Ghia Estate) with 90k on the clock and it is still going strong with way over 200k on the clock now with only major being 2 injectors failing.

My 24-year old Mazda MX5 Mk1 sailed through the MOT today. I always get it checked beforehand but as per usual it needed nothing doing. I have owned the car for 14 years and apart form regular servicing, I never had to change so much as brake pipe. Amazing little car!

Love the Mx5. I had a mk2 Phoenix 2002 for about 13 years until earlier this year. Bombproof mechanically and mine still had the original battery. Soft top for summer and hard top for winter and a heater that would grow tomatoes!
The weakness in it was the underbody. I worked beside the sea and it took its toll on the underside and had to get the wheel arches done every year or so.
Sold mine on as it was starting to need money from time to time to stay on top of it. And it was harder to get into and especially out of!
Hope you have many more happy years with yours.

The good news is, it should qualify for cheap classic insurance.
