48 hours in Bayeux

We are landing in Cherbourg next Tuesday and we have 48 hours in Bayeux before we head south for Tours. Our MH parking is sorted, but we are overwhelmed with the amount of things to do concerning ww2. Can the good folks here please recommend 3 best ww2 places to visit? Which beach is the best? Which museum is a must?
We have a 9 and 11 year old with us, so we don't want anything too complex.

Mulberry harbour where you can see the concrete pontoons still at sea. And there is a museum there which is quite good. I've been to the museum 3 times, the first with a secondary school group. Certainly 3 years ago, when we spent 8 days long the Normandy beaches, none of the museums were very modern I.e. Interactive. But still very informative and moving. Have you had a gander through TripAdvisor? Enjoy your trip.

Don't forget to. Is it some of the cemeteries as they are very informative and interesting. Also the Muesuem in Bayeaux is worth a visit.

Agree with Jack. Bayeux war graves worth a visit. The landing beaches are all quite close together and we've been to all of them and the museum def worth going to.
Also, Sainte-Mère-Église, the first town & area to be liberated by the 505th airborne division is a good visit and has a wonderful interactive walk through museum. A mannequin of a paratrooper (John Steel) hangs on the church spire as he himself did in 1944.
It's a fantastic area, a full holiday in itself and the town of Bayeux is lovely.... good museum on the tapestry too and the cathedral is a wonderful visit too.

2. Omaha beach (and US cemetery)
3. La Cambe (German cemetery)

As mentioned St. Mere Eglise is worth a visit also and the museum is good too.

Arromanches, 2 aires (park for day on the one at the top near the 360 degree cinema and get the train down ) and a municipal site as clunegapyears says the mulberry harbours and a museum in the town, also has a decent beach and not too far from Bayeaux. Parking in centre of Bayeaux for a visit to the tapestry.

I'm your man for anything WW2 in Normandy. Have been out multiple times round 6th June. Never in a motorhome but took a WW2 troop carrier over in 2014 for touring.

Some have already mentioned, St Mere Eglise, Omaha beach & Point du hoc and the US cemetery. If you have time consider Dead mans corner in Carentan. If I could only do one thing it would be St Mere Eglise & the museums there. Some recently added "interactive" elements where it looks like you are walking through & out the door of a Dakota flying over Normandy like a US Paratrooper.

Grandcamp Maisy between Carentan & Point du Hoc is great too. Full of bunkers & trenches uncovered just about 10 years ago. Very good military museum in Bayeaux itself too, especially for vehicles.

I will try to post some off our adventures but I have been informed that I am on hols from work and mhc by my kids. But the kids will hardly deny their poor father a cup of coffee alone in a cafe!!!!!
So maybe an odd quite post or two.

Memorial de Caen is well worth a visit, you need to give yourself a few hours. There is an Aire beside it on Avenue Marechal Montgomery. Batterie Allemande de Longues sur Mer near Bayeaux is also worth a visit. The large guns would interest kids because they could climb into them. Have a good trip.

Well folks, we are back from our 16 night run in France. 1000 miles done, nearly €300 in diesel and a MH whose rear bumper is now 2 inches lower than when we started. I never thought that glass bottles could weight as heavy. I will post more in a few days, after we settled back in to normal living again.

Great to hear you are safely home, also that your were as they say in nautical terms , down by the Stern. Way to go.
Looking forward to the 8th for our trip.
