I've signed up for a tag as I'm going to France early September. I was wondering if anyone could tell me from experience where the best place is to locate it on the windscreen? I've got an A Class and the radio Ariel is at the corner of the windscreen.

Jack,
See post #28 on this thread.
An A class will be better than a van with an overhang.
We found it best on our van at the L/H bottom of screen so the reader "sees" it and the overhang didn't block it.
I think L/H upper in A class would be good, up high and therefore closer to the tag reader at the booths, the reader will be on the left, 3 to 4 metres high on a pole.
The ATMB tag comes with two mounting brackets.

anywhere on the screen that has no got any obstuction to the passes view to the front, Once drove a lorry that had it behind the wiper blade. Once you twigged on what was the problem and turned on the wipers before the payage it was no problem

Can anyone tell me what the 2nd mounting bracket is for and how I use it? Or do I just stick the tag to the screen? You can tell I'm not very technical.

It's for a second vehicle Jack, you can fit tag on either.
The tag slips out of the bracket by sliding the tag to the right.
It was useful for me when I replaced my windscreen, they do stick on very well !

I'm not so dumb after all. I thought that's what it was for a 2nd vehicle.

Fyi...just returned after 5 week trip and 4600km. Used atmb tag. bill for first 3.5 weeks was 84euro not payable until end aug, then rest end is sept, so good value. I did use autoroute from Clermont ferrand over Millay viaduct to Spain though which is toll free except for a section to Perpignan from beziers (& Millay of course. I found that best place was in middle of windscreen( (both height and width) to mimic the position of a car. I had two gates not open when I had it lower down but none after I moved it up a bit. If gate does not open just hit the customer service red button on toll booth and tell them u have atmb and gate didn't open and they will remotely open gate with no hassle. Apart from the two closed gates my experience was positive.

Got my first bill, an email stating that the cost of the tag and postage was due on the 22/9/17. I assumed that it would be charged to my credit card on that date but it has yet to appear. Is there something else I need to do.

No,
Mine usually is debited on the day they state on the pre emailed invoice.
Might be worth dropping the tag company an enquiry ?

I'm still waiting on mine. I had no problem with the barrier opening but always had to push the button to tell them I had a tag. Will be interesting to see if I get a bill?

Never had to press the button, but it was slow on one occasion. Once I realised I could use the express lanes, the ones with the large t, we sailed through all the tolls. Brilliant.

Doh...I never realised I could use the lorry lanes!!

Is there still a barrier on the express lorry lanes then?

As for hitting the button, I had that issue but moved the tag to middle of windscreen (from middle mottom) and had no more issues.

Some toll's have a fast lanes on each side, recognized by a large letter " t " ( not the capital T ) and the figure. 30 in red, two on the right side , one on the left ,be careful of this one ,sometimes it is marked for bikes and cars which you can only see when you're very close.
In these lanes you drop your speed down below 30kph allow a good distance distance ( about 3 vehicle lengths ) behind the one in front of you ,and drive right up to the barrier. It lifts when you're around 2mtrs from it . in regular lanes some b people will stop too far away from the barrier, stopping at the ticket machine is too far back .
Outside Bordeaux about 100 cars queuing up to go trough , we got into Tag lane with two others and laughed at the all in the mirror's . great well worth the effort of getting a tag.
