Do you wave to Campervans?

I had Motorhomes before buying a campervan last month, last one a A Class, I always waved to Motorhomes and campervans that I would meet on the roads and almost always got a wave back.
Since I got the camper it is very noticeable how few waves I get from Motorhomes, has anyone else experienced this?

The other half waves at every van, A class, campervan, high top...no discrimination with her.

Wave to them all , very few wave back , like you i am in a sprinter convert , I think all they see is a van until its too late.
But still if a van waved to me I would wave back.

When driving with our Granddoughters in the open top they play Sweet or Sour. They wave to everyone ,if they wave back they are Sweet,
If the don't , well what else would they be.

We wave at all but must say Hymer owners were very bad to wave back when we were driving the Chausson, most others would. We haven't noticed it in the Knaus though, (Sorry Hymer owners)

I usually wave to everyone but find that a lot don't wave back to me some of them look like part time under takers especially the left hand drive ones even if they stuck a plastic steering wheel on their pass side, some of their wives are busting to wave lol

We always wave and usually get a wave back. Sometimes we miss some convertibles as they are passing us before we realise its not a van. We are down south at the moment and surprisingly we are not getting many waves back.

I just keep waving and those that have not got the decency to give a wave back must be very grumpy individuals ,probably not motorhome craic type and best left alone to grow old and lonely.

Aye!

A back hander, a finger slightly lifted, a Royal wave, an upright full hand and the Galway middle finger :)

Also came across one or two who flash the lights as well as wave. What are your thoughts on that???

We once spotted a speed van on the other side of the road and flashed the lights at an oncoming Motorhome. We got a very enthusiastic wave from everyone in the van ... lovely to get the wave albeit my intention was something different :-)

I have begun flashing the lights instead of waving for the simple reason it's a lot handier(pun) and can be seen better, problem is if they wave back I end up waving also 🇧🇭

Funny you said that John, I got one of those waves today coming into Kilcolgan from a fellow in a silver van and it wasn't even a Camper or Motorhome, at first I thought he was MAD or MAXed out in something, it must be one of those Galway waves I suppose

I find some waves to be not entirely dissimilar to a Nazi salute, it's a little disturbing, but I know it's not intended to be like that. I still wave back.

I found that too but I think a lot of the newer vans that I have come across lately are rentals and and the drivers or passengers aren't aware of the waving tradition

If you're driving through Cork and you see someone on a motorbike or in a grey Audi convertible waving at you.... it might be me! 🖐

Some here mightn't realize it, but the biker community has the same 'waving' tradition. I don't know what the link is, but it's there.

I haven't waved at anyone from the Coachmen in quite a while but I am looking forward to it when that day comes around again!

Yes I always make the effort to wave or acknowledge, but have noticed that having a Campervan I can appreciate others on approaching may not realise what I am,camper or work van. I think we in Ireland are much more friendly than on the continent , so ther you go.😎😜

Good point, there are times when we wave but cant see the through the screen of the other van so not sure if they are waving or now. Might try the lights in future myself :-)

We always wave!! To everyone!!

Well, actually, we do the dab! So far we've only had one couple realise what we were doing and the look of delight on their faces as they burst out laughing just absolutely made our day!!

(For anyone who doesn't know what the dab is, give it a quick Google! Then on the off chance that we pass you and you see us dabbing you will know that we are not just trying to beat each other up!! :) )

I flash lights or wave. I think on the continent there are so many campersaround, people just don't bother to wave, due to sheer familiarity with the numerous campers on the road??

LOL! Yeah... that's me too :)

Actually, every single niche has its wave, works if you're on bikes, cars, boats, campers or any kind of "special" vehicle that has its own special group.

I was very happy when I went out to test drive my MH to be and saw another MH crossing down the street and he waved at me, which of course I immediately replied with a wave and a big smile :) Made me feel part of the community right away, which is a great thing when you're about to get yourself into something unknown and even a little bit scary.

It's a human thing, we like to relate.

Motorcyclists and campervans - waves, dances, nodding the head, or straightening the leg out, we do love to say hello :) Similarly if you're on the N4 and a chap in an Ironman motorbike helmet waves, don't be too worried.. I can't help myself :D
